Thread locker

I just had two bolts come completely out of my nose wheel mount and one more loosened itself, leaving only one bolt holding the nosewheel to the plane in flight!

I'm going to replace the screws and use thread locker. Any disadvantages to using thread locker? Is it sometimes difficult to remove the thread locked nuts and or bolts?

Just a tiny bead is all you need. Let it set for a few minutes before installing the bolt. Use it on everything firewall forward. I don't use it on the engine itself, except to mount the muffler.

I've used Great planes brand, but generally I get it at O'Reiley's. I like the high temp for the muffler. I just use the medium for the motor mount and nose gear.

Thread locker should be mandatory on all machine screws, nuts, etc. I usually just bring bottles of the Loktite brand blue stuff home from work but you can get it at any auto parts store and even hardware stores. Even if you were to make a screw difficult to remove (which isn't likely), it is a heck of a lot better than having it remove itself in flight.

Also, when you are dealing with wood screws, harden the holes with thin CA and this will help prevent them from coming out.
