4 stroke question
 

Hey guys, I recently got a great used Saito for free and am installing it into the fuse now. I know the outlet in the back of the crankcase discharges a tiny amount of oil. What do I do with it? I obviously can attach a piece of fuel line and send it where I wish, but where do you send it? My thinking right now that I can just drill a hole in my cowl and sent it that way. What are your thoughts. Thanks!

That's exactly what I do with mine. Sometimes, when I have fixed gear, I will route the tube down the inside of the gear wire with wire ties and let it blow excess out there. The downside is that your tires get filthy. The plus side is that it's your tires, and not your covering. You'll be surprised at how much oil and filth comes out of that tube in the course of a day's flying. It's more than a tiny bit. In either case, at least vent it somewhere to the outside. Don't let it collect on the firewall...

If you use after run oil, that is also where you have to put it in at. On a 4 stroke, it does little if any good to put the after run oil into the carb or exhaust port. If you use it, just a drop or two won't do, you need to put in about a teaspoon full and then manually rotate the engine to let gravity get the oil into the bearings on the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. And yes, a lot of oil will come out of that vent in flight, probably about an ounce for every ten ounces of fuel burnt.

I usually agree with everything Rodney says, but an ounce for every 10 ounces of fuel burned is WAY more than what will come out of there.

Only a small amount of gunk will come out of that nipple, but the small amount that does come out is really nasty, so venting it out is a good idea.
