Need some advice. I put a Saito 30 four stroke on a .15 AT-6. Initial takeoff resulted in a pretty hard torque roll. Anything I can do to minimixe this or is this just too much motor?

Don't use full throttle or apply the throttle more slowly. That should help.

Get more speed before you take off

Try this, it worked for me.
 

I put an OS 52 4 st. in my Smith Mini plane. Last year when I tried to fly it it torque rolled as well. A little damage the first couple of times and then I destroyed the lower wing. So, I rebuilt it and on the advice of RCU members put a couple of degrees right thrust into the motor. The plans called for 0. Getting up to take off speed, as suggested is also important. Ok, so I took the little bipe out to the field a couple of days ago and with my heart in my throat I decided to give it a try. Another piece of advice I followed was this: Don't hold any up elevator just b3ecause it's a tail dragger. Just throttle up slowly and steadily and let the tail come up. I did and I think she took off with very little elevator input. Climbed out absolutely level and beautiful. Now, I'm not sure this will work for you but I can sure appreciated the problem you're having. So you might want to check the thrust angle on the motor, it sure seemed to help me.

Don't forget the rudder. There is a little thing called left hand turning tendencies. I won't go into all the specifics here but a tailwheel gets a double whammy. First when the tail picks up,second is when you are pitching the nose up. The descening blade on the prop is producing more thrust than the descending blade causing more left turn, combined with the roll from the torque rudder is essential.

Try that with the other suggestions and you should do fine.

oops that should have read "the decending blade produces more thrust than the ASCENDING blade" that should make more sense. LOL

Yep, I forgot to mention right rudder. Just like I guess I forgot to stick some in on take off when I was having all the trouble with the Smith Mini plane last summer. Takes a while for us newbies to appreciate the need of using more rudder. However, adding the right thrust to the motor on this plane has really eliminated the problem of the roll off to the left. I'm still trying to remember to fly with more rudder input but for now this change to thrust angle has allowed me to get it off the ground bveautifully, giving me a chance to really fly it. I can't believe hpw great this little bipe flies and very easy to land. Gotta love thes bi-planes.
