Breaking in engine?
 

Hi. I have a Saito 100 (4 stroke) in an Extra 300.
Whats the best way to "break in" the engine?
Should I run it full thottle for 1 min then idle for 1 min then repeat.
Someone told me that.

The best method is to follow the instructions that are included in the manual for the engine. One very important step that is in that manual is step #8 on page 6 of the manual. It states:

There are always a lot of "somebody told me" in this hobby, and that is especially true for engine break-in. But I have always been of the thought that the manual should always be your number 1 source of information in the break-in of your engine. Especially when it's from a good company such as Saito or OS. They know their stuff and you can't go wrong following their instructions.

the best thing to do is go by what the MFG suggest look in your manual it should explain all you need to know in there.

Do not run that engine at full throttle for at least one tank full.
The saito 100 is an incredible engine, you will absolutely love it.

No! That is a breaking procedure for ABC 2-cycle engines. To break in your Saito, turn the HS needle out about 4-5 turns (very rich). Start the engine and let it run slowly, only about 4000 rpm. Use a tach, you can't judge the rpm's of a 4-stroke as easily as a 2-stroke. Keep the rpms low! After a tank has gone through it, lean it some, maybe to 3 turns out and run another tank through it at 4000 rpm. After that adjust the HS needle to run well and go fly it. Keep it a little on the rich side for maybe a dozen flights or so. Adjust the LS needle as needed for a good idle and smooth transition.
