Rotostart to start plane?

I have a HPI Rotostart used for starting my HPI Savage Monster Truck. I have seen a couple of vids on youtube of people using what looks like the rotostart with a plane starter rubber starting cone attached to the front of it.

Any idea if the rotostart can be modded to do this? Or is it a specific starter?

Cheers

I would not do it. My H9 HD starter is much slower than a RotoStarter, and alot less torqe!

So hyrdo lock damage may be an issue?

Is $20 worth the trouble?

About $50 to buy them in Australia. And I have the rotostart. But yeh maybe your right. I just thought with the battery in the handle etc it would make carting it back and forth from the flight line a little easier.

I've done it , and it works fine . No need to worry about hydro-lock , unless you overprime the engine . That goes for any starter . I also use another one to start one of my boats . Had to reverse the wires to turn the motor the other way , but it works fine as well .

How did you rig up the starter cone on the nose of it?

Just cut the normal rotostart shaft and put a starter cone on it using a grub screw?

If so what starter cone etc did you use?

Thanks

RE: Rotostart to start plane?

I took an allen wrench the same size as the Roto shaft and cut off the L end . Then i threaded it the same size as the aluminum cup you'll buy . ( just enough to get a lockwasher and nut on there ) I ordered the cup from the LHS , but you should be able to find an old starter and just use that one . I then trimmed the other end so that the cup just clears the housing of the Roto-start drive . Then about 1/2 inch from the end you insert into the drive , i dremelled a groove to install an O-ring (the same as the shaft for your truck ) to keep it from falling out . I don't have a digital camera , or i would post pics . It's pretty simple , you should be able to figure it out . ;)
