OS .61 FX
I have an OS .61 FX that I have running in a Graupner Showflyer. I have run the engine a total of maybe 10 times. It is on a MACS tuned pipe for that engine. The problem I am having is that it seems not to be pulling fuel into the carb. I can choke it, since the engine is mounted on a 45 drgree angle, the fuel will spill out of the carb. I can get it to fire, but it burns the choked fuel in it and dies. I have messed with the settings, rich an lean, takne the carb apart and made sure there were no foreign objects in it ( I landed in the grass once with it ) I am at a loss as to why this thing won't fire. I have changed glow plugs, everything. I am running 10% Nitro Fuel. Any opinions would be appreciated !!!

You might have a low end problem. Try screwing it out 3 turns on the low end and see what happends.
I hope you have allready checked for pin holes in the fuel lines. Later daveo |

3 turns ? That is on the screw on the barrel of the carb, correct ? Not the remote needle valve. Than OS manual says 1/2 turn is the factory setting. Must be off eh ?

OS .61 FX
It's pretty common for the factory settings to be way off. It will run if my recomendation is to rich
but not if it's to leen. If you have someone to help hold the plane , try starting it at 1/2 throttle or more. If it's a low end problem it will run at more than half throttle because the low end wont effect it. DON'T DO THIS unless you have an electric starter. Hand starting one at a high throttle settings can cost you a finger. Later Daveo |

Check that the carb is firmly seated, and no air leaking under it.
Check for pinched fuel lines, Check that the muffler pressure line is connected to the muffer at a wide section, not in the narrow acceleration tube. (smoke system can go in the narrow part... It can draw a VACUUM in that portion of the pipe! The engine won't run above idle on tuned pipe if the pressure line is in the wrong place.) Check for dirt/debris in the main nedle. You can choke fuel past the debris and still be unable to draw adequate fuel for the engine to run right. |

Thanks guys,
The 3 turns on the low speed did the trick ! It fired right up, and ran great. Gonna hit the fun fly tomorrow. We'll dial it in tomorrow, but I think you hit the ole nail on the head there ! I appreciate all your help ! That is what I am learning about this hobby, everyone is so helpful and never offstandish or overbearing. ( well for the most part, all clubs have their ole grumpy fellas ) Have a great day and thanks for all the help !! Joe |
