EVOE100 Engine Problems/Settings

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie in the sport of rc flying so please bare with me if my terminology is off in explaining myself. I just bought a P-51 PTS and have had all sorts of issues, engine wise, since I started her up. First she was set at half throttle and wouldn't come down to idle. So, I reset the linkage to correct that. Now that I got it to idle, It wouldn't run past half throttle, so I messed with the 2 settings as described in the owners manual for the engine. I got that working. The radio was set at -40% for throttle trim and the idle was now too high still. I hit the throttle cut off button on my radio and the plane still runs and the throttle barrel is closed. As I was messing with the low speed screw and blipping the throttle, I noticed the barrel wasn't moving as it should with my radio controls. It wouldn't return to it's original position evry time I moved the throttle. I was at wits end at this point, because I didn't realize the throttle stop screw was loose from the factory and hence didn't notice that because there is no mention in the owners manual about that screw, so I didn't even check it. Now I'm at a loss of how to set the carb up with this screw. I notice that the barrel will come out further as I loosen this screw more. Can someone tell me how to set up this screw and how to set my throttle up to work correctly from the beginning? I am a gearhead by nature, so I should be able to figure it out on my own, but would rather leave that to someone knowledgable in that area. I don't want to send this plane up for the first time and bring it home in pieces because of not having things set up properly. My buddy who got me into this hobby is now in the hospital for a couple of weeks, so I'm on my own for now. Oh yeah, so much for READY TO FLY out of the box! This must've been a Friday end of the shift slap together job! LOL My aileron setting wasn't set up properly from the factory either, they were operating backwards but a call to tech support got that straightened out. They went through all the settings with me on the radio and others were not set properly either. Hope this isn't a sign of what's to come when I get this plane in the air!! LOL

You should check out the long PTS thread where most of this is already covered.

Most ARF's are exactly as you received your plane... it's up to the pilot to set things up properly.

Have you joined a club yet?

If not do so, and find someone who will help you trim out and maiden the plane.

If this is your first RC plane, take instructions. Most clubs provide this for free, and you can often start off with a club trainer to save wear and tear on your plane.

Finally get an instructor who is familiar with the PTS. Often those who are not, will poo-poo the plane.

It's a good trainer but YOU MUST have help with it to get started and through your first flights...

Otherwise it's lifespan may be measured in seconds!

You desperately need a knowledgeable (experienced) modeler to go over everything with you. Do not attempt to actually fly it until you get hands on help.

As you can see there are a lot of hurdles to cross or at least double check because of it being Friday afternoon or Monday morning at the factory.

This Evolution engine has a throttle stop screw that should be loosened and adjusted to where you can open the throttle completely as well as close it completely. Then the jam nut on the screw should be tightened back down.

There could be two reasons for the engine not shutting off. One, the the is not closed completely due to adjustment of the radio, throttle linkage, or the throttle stop screw. Two, the throttle body is not inserted completely into the engine and there is an air leak.

Actually he has the Evolution PTS engine not the 100 ( aka 1.00 ).

Evolution has in their INFINITE WISDOM, dubbed the PTS engine, prop, spinner and flywheel the "EVO100" which is almost the same monikker used for their Evolution ( AWEFUL ) 1.00 NX engine... go figure...

Your best bet is to either wait until your friend gets out of the hospital or seek help from an RC club in your Area.
If you read through the various PTS threads, good and bad, you will gain alot of knowledge and you will find that most people will at least agree that it is not a do it yourself airplane.
I am a bit confused though.
The P-51 PTS is a 40 size plane, you have an EVO 100 in it? Or are they making them bigger now?
(never mind Opjose explained it :) )

Thanks to everyone for giving me their advice. I will look further in the forums for more topics such as this. By then, my friend should be good to go. Yes, I did join a club recently, the same one my friend is a member of. He is also the club certified instructor. Patience is a virtue..Thanks again..

Engine Size: Evolution Trainer Power System .455 CU (EVOE100)

Evolution 1.00NX Engine w/Muffler by Evolution Engines 1.00 CU (EVOE1100)

Are we confused yet?

:D

Nope..no confusion.. NOW that is. Jeech.. what confusion.. oh, I said that. :D

The 100NX, in my opinion, is junk. I had one and ended up pretty much giving it away. I won't even go into why. I've done that several times and it just isn't worth the effort any longer.
