BATTERY PACK
I have San yo 600AE cells 9 pack to charge and on the battery it says to charge at 50 milliamps for 14 hours with a wall charger, Well what happens when I use my peak charger at 1.2 amps and it charges them in 20 minutes?

RE: BATTERY PACK
First charge should be really slow to let the battery suck in all the energy it can. After that, peaking your packs at capacity (a one hour charge) is the safest route. In a pinch, you can charge faster but the heat generated in a fast charge is bad for the pack and will shorten it's life span. If you can, charging at c/10 (a ten hour charge) is ideal for the battery pack once the initial charge has been done.

RE: BATTERY PACK
As said you want the first charge to be slow, as recommended by the manufacturer. This is known as a forming charge.
Failure to do this can result in diminished capacity. After the first charge you can charge faster but I would NEVER charge a pack in 20 minutes. Your batteries will not last long doing that. I don't recommend charging at faster than 1C or .6amps for your pack but personally I always slow charge my packs overnight. |
