Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
Hi Ya'll, Glad ya got to see me! How ya'll are?, Well, here's my problem. I have a Saito .82 on a H-9 Pawnee, I've been trying to find a 2 1/4 inch aluminum spinner that will fit it perfect! I am looking for one that I can use a Top Flight wood 14-6 prop with it. Also I don't want to have to cut or grind on it at all. (all i got to work on one is a hammer and a pipe wrench!) Tried a Tru-turn but the hub on the prop wuz too fat to slide into the prop slots. My LHS guy don't know nutten bout airplane spinners. (he's into little bitty cars, boy that must be fun!) So if ya can help me with any info plez do. (I'll even take ya coon hunt'n sometime) Or another thing, if ya got an extra spinner that ya ain't useing, please send it to me! That wood be so kewl'r. >>>-> Bassfish [sm=shades_smile.gif]

Trade your hammer and pipe wrench in for a Dremel tool. You'll be glad you did.

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
If you read the post, I said, I don't want to have to hack on one! That means that I wont one that I don't have to modify! I can't see spending that kind of money for a perfectly ballenced spinner and then butcher it up and then have to worry if it is ballanced or not. >>>-> [sm=shades_smile.gif]

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
Email Tru Turn or call them and tell them what prop you want to use. Chances are that they'll have a spinner for it or else they will cut one to fit your prop.

YOU can make it bigger if need be, but you CAN'T make it smaller. So they are INTENDED to have their holes enlarged. If you are really that set on not doing it yourself, contact Tru-Turn as Birman suggested and they will do the cutting for you - but expect to pay for the privilege. |
RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
After about 30 years I gave up on the cone shaped spinners that wrap around the prop. I now only use the solid aluminum spinner prop nuts that you can tighten with a large wrench, yet allow the use of a standard electric engine starter. Very functional. Prop never gets loose. Lasts forever. Works for me.

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
Hey Mr. Moderator, Don't be so "Snippy" with me! Just cuz u have a few strips on here don't give you the right to post messages that way. 1 st of all ,(sence you don't know it all), Tru turn as well as Brown say that the spinners that they produce are ballenced! There! Also it would be nice if you would take a "Chill Pill' and get rid of that attitude you have! Also it would[sm=shades_smile.gif] be NICER if you don't offer any future advice. ( I don't want it from you!) >>>->

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
kinda harsh......these folks are trying to help you...try dawg house RC they cut spinners......you can find them on the web

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
I apologize if my reply sounded "Snippy". I assure you, I didn't intend it to be.
I was just trying to point out that you are trying to avoid doing what 99% of us do on a regular basis without giving it a second thought. If you WANT to spend more money on an already expensive spinner, go right ahead. I was just trying to show you that you're worrying over a needless matter. |

[sm=red_smile.gif] You don't need to apologize . I'm sorry that I took it wrong. I apologize to all! Please forgive ! >>>-> Bassfish [sm=cry_smile.gif]

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
Then if you spoke to TT and DB both then I would assume you bought A spinner custom cut from one of them?? At one point in time TT was selling custom cut spinners at no extra charge, those days are over. Today I started using A spinner made by Magnum and sold through my LHS. Very cheap and every bit as good as any of the others I have used. Even comes with an adapter that sometimes even fits the engine I'm using it on. You may want to learn to use A Dremel tool, the hobby doesn't lend itself well to hammers and plumbing tools.

Thank you , I'll give it a try. >>>> Bassfish[sm=shades_smile.gif]

Wow! That discourse was interesting, to say the least.

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
I just needed a good quality spinner that is 2 inch diameter and would fit a APC 11/6 prop with a large hub. I compared True Turn and Dave Brown products since they charged $5 for custom cutting versus TT's $9. I had it in about a week. The only broblem was that the adapter nut (short) was 1/8" in too long but in five minutes with a bench grinder all was fine. I am very happy with it.

Found one at Hobby Lobby! Thanks to all. [sm=teeth_smile.gif] >>>-> Bassfish

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
Tru turn sells spinners designed for the newer "W" (wide) props....may want to look at one of those...
but Minn is correct.. it is normal to open up the opening.... Hows this to swallow.... $150 or soo for a carbon fiber spinner for my 150cc engine... and there are no holes at all! ;) |
RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
Bassfish,
If you can't fix it with a hammer or a pipe wrench, you got an electrical problem!:D |

Hi Ya reffcut, That's the first thing I thought of, but that ain't it cuz I don't got no lect trick wher I live! [sm=cry_smile.gif] >>>-> Bassfish

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
Contrary to what MinnFlyer said Tru-Turn does claim to balance its spinners and I have yet to buy one that was not balanced although I have not bought a great deal of them, 3 or 4. They also make W slotted spinners and I seem to remember another Tru-Turn spinner I bought with what was called a 120 slot, I bought that one when I was having problems fitting a 91. 4 stroke on an AT6. So they do indeed make larger slotted spinners but I am not sure what size and styles are available.

RE: Spinner! Can't find one that will work!
Just save money and go ahead and get a Crescent Wrench. You can fix any and everything with a Crescent, Pipe wrench, and a hammer. If not get a bigger hammer. Duct Tape will also inhance a tool box if you want to get fancy.
