Hi Gang,
I'm ready to go for the Tower Hobby HOBBISTAR 60 MKIII
I see it has the same wing as the Avistar but has the more traditional wing tips.
Now i'm asking myself is this big bird will fly a bit faster with the OS 65LA then the Avistar with an OS 46 BB ABC engine?
I'm looking for something bigger that will do a bit better then the Avistar and allow me to do loops, rolls and vertical climbs.
Does anyone here have any experience with this plane or perhaps seen it fly?
Would appreciate any suggestions.

Hobbystar and Avistar will both do loops and rolls.
Vertical climb is strictly engine /prop vs weight.

The Hobbistar should be a good fit based on what you described you're looking for. The .65 LA is a good choice for power, too. It actually out turns the .61 FX on a number of different propellers. I'm flying a very similar setup, a Goldberg Protege .60 ARF with a Thunder Tiger GP-61 engine, and it's an absolute joy to fly.

Well I love the Avistar. and with a good .46 BB engine it will about hover. The .40LA will fly it through all the manouvers you listed. I'm sure I would like the Hobbistar 60 as well if I had the chance to fly one... with a Saito 1.25:D Uh-Oh new project:D

Now you got me set on it
OK I have all of the three TH RTF trainers.
This will be the biggest amd it does have ball bearing servos.
To be a little more specific what I want is a bigger plane that flies faster then the Avistar with a bigger engine but not at hyper fast speeds and still do the loops,rolls,etc at a little faster rate.
I like your sig line.
That was why I gave up the helicopters:D

There is no way the larger plane of very similar design will roll faster or loop tighter than the smaller version of it. The larger the plane the slower and more gracefully it will perform these manouvers. If you want to roll like a kids toy top and loop somewhere between the spinner and the tailwheel get a Twist:D

If you have already flew the avistar and want to move up go for the 60 size ultra stick, and get yourself a good 91 size 4 stroke and you will have a blast.

Well I love the Avistar. and with a good .46 BB engine it will about hover. The .40LA will fly it through all the manouvers you listed. I'm sure I would like the Hobbistar 60 as well if I had the chance to fly one... with a Saito 1.25:D Uh-Oh new project:D
The TH trainers are nice but I think i'm going to take the one with a size 40 engine on it and round off those wing tips.
There nust be a reason why they didn't put them on that MKIII Trainer
I really don't need this big plane but have to have it :)

Well I sit here near the phone and a plastic card in my hand:) and now you have me thinking if I should buy this bird.
It's go a 6 CH radio and ball bearing servos.
I would think the light weight with fuel ,the 60 engine will allow vertical climbs.
I'm not looking to twist the fuse apart.

So, if you have the small one (Avistar???) spend your money on a nice 6,7, or 9 channel radio then. Just another idea to keep your head spinning:D I recently got the JR XP9303 2.4 Ghz Tx and it is so nice not having to worry about getting that frequency pin every time I fly and I have more functions than I will ever use... Uhm... I said that about me Futaba 6eax too... well it will keep me happy for a few years anyway:D

I've had two Hobbistar 60's, the first one had a O.S. 1.08 on it, the one I have now has a 90 Super Tiger. I use this plane for a engine test bed. I also have a O.S. 61 SF-P for it, flies good but not up to the 90. The 1.08 was a bit overkill but fun.

IMHO, this plane needs something a little bigger than a 65 LA, although it will fly ok with that motor, I don't think it will pull verticle with a 65. Buy the ARF and stick a 91 on it.

As for the rolls, it just won't roll as fast as the Avistar. That was my second trainer with a 61 4-stroke, very nice combo.

Try a Tower Hobbies .75 with about a 14X4 prop maybe or even a .91 4 stroke and you can have almost unlimited vertical.

Well then if it will do vertical stock then i'll go for it
I just got the new EV 61NX but from what I been reading the OS65LA on the big trainer will do better.
4 Stroke sounds good but funds here are low
