os wankel starting problem

hello,
I im just starting with rc. engines and I really like wankel engines so I bought one 5cc wankel engine (type 2).
I bought everything to run the engine but it just does not start. I followed the instuction book exactly.
Does anyone know what going on?

Are you using an electric starter or are you propping by hand? They would not be considered a beginner engine, even though it should not matter much.

RE: os wankel starting problem

Somebody in our club bought a couple of used OS Wankel engines on the internet. He brought them to the field to try them out. He could get one to run without problem, but the other had little or no compression and would not run despite the fact that there was enough fuel. Then he took the recalcitrant engine apart to see why there was no compression. I vaguely remember that there are "square" looking "gaskets" that may have to replaced, but I might be totally wrong on that one, so somebody correct me if I am wrong. These OS Wankel engines are not being produced anymore, as I understand it. PS I certainly would start off with a new glow plug or test the one that came with it.

yes I start electric, wel not with a special thing for it but with a drilling machine, is that good too?

well maybe thats so but I bought my engine new and did exactly what the instruction told me to do, and it does not work, so you mean that the engine is not made right, or that some wankels are not made right and some other are made good.?

First, forget about my comment regarding the "gaskets" as that applied to a used engine only. I would however check for the engine getting fuel. So, did you adjust anything on the carburettor? Your instruction booklet should probably say something about needles that regulate air/fuel mixture [low end / high end]. Also did you keep the fuel tank at roughly the same level as the carburettor and if there is a nipple on the muffler, did you connect the pressure line? I hope someone with actual Wankel experience chimes in to give you some practical advice! Good luck. mvg

The seals are called apex seals. One thing too, and I think the engine comes with it, is that it uses a special glow plug and I dont think you can use a different one. Too long will damage the seals too short wont ignite as it is like a 4 stroke plug.

Your drill motor might not be spinning it fast enough? Is there someone near by that you could borrow an airplane engine starter from?

He's in the Netherlands. It's likely to be a cheaper call to his local OS importer/distributor, rather than a call across the world to the US importer/distributer.

I would double check and take out the plug and see if it is glowing and after you reinstall it squirt some fuel directly in the carb. and try to start it. What fuel are you using? I guess they use the FS plug now; the older one used a special plug.
