K2R Available in Calif
 

Hi All,
I had an earlier post discussing fuel removal from Balsa.
Most posts sent me to K2R Spoat Remover.
I had some trouble locating it and wondered if it was banned here.
It is not! I found it at Mendo Mill/Ace Hardware in Ukiah.
Interestingly, the same store near where I live does not carry it.
I talked to the people at K2R and they are very familiar with our use of it.
Well, now I have some work to do.
Just wanted to spread the good news.

Glad that you located some. I love the stuff and along with kitty litter, have saved many a plane from the scrap heap. Are you a member of the Ukiah Propbusters? I have fond memories of the flying field and the Dan Sullivan. Good Luck, Dave

When I was still in Ca. I had some real problems finding the stuff. My local market had some very old cans of the stuff and I bought it all. Then they no longer carried the stuff. We had an ACE in town but I never thought to look there.
Now in the Vegas area we have no ACE hardware stores that I have found and none of the markets carry it. Buy it when you can find it, I always keep my eyes opened for it and it's A good thing to have on hand when you need it.

For those that have spent a lot of time hunting for this product it might be easier to just mail in an order and have them ship it directly to you. From my time in the hobby I have found that this is one product that is definitely worth keeping on hand in your shop. You never know when you might have a fuel leak in a plane. And it's a lot easier if you have K2R on hand so you can remove the fuel from the wood a quickly as you can. The longer the wood soaks the harder it is to remove the fuel.

You are right, you can order it direct.
One case minimum, I think six cans.
Maybe a group order?

You can also use cornstarch. K2R also has a solvent that can help the oil become more fluid, but cornstarch will also do the job, but a bit more slowly. It's cheap, so you can be very liberal with its use.

Ace Hardware around a few blocks from my house has it. I think you phisically have to look for the stuff in some places. Often the employees have no idea what it is or that the store stocks it.
