First Flight

Well, I finally finished my LT-40, set the radio up and went to the field. I had a great instructor, who took the plane up for the maiden flight, put it through its paces then handed me the controls. I did a few slow turns, had some trouble keeping the nose up at first and keeping control in the turns but otherwise it went okay.

The only truly scary part was on landing, my instructor brough it in, (he did amazinly well considering the cross wind) put it down softly and then..... the prop just fell off. I was soooo lucky, as soon as the motor was cut off, the prop fell to the ground, spinner and all.

After a quick repair, and a good tightening we went up again and the turns went a little better. I want to thank all of you who have helped me get to this point.

Victor,
Congratulations on your first couple of flights. Great stuff ain't it! :D

You WERE lucky with the prop. I had it happen once in the air (with my trainer when I was learning). The engine spun up to about 20,000 rpm.

Fortunately, the instructor knew immediately and shut it down, so there was no damage. Unfortunately, it took me almost two weeks to get a new prop nut. No one had them locally. :(

Thanks guys, Yes I was lucky. The prop nut stayed in the spinner cone. The nut was metric and I guess I didn't get it tight enough.

ANd yes I am hooked. Have a second kit (Something Extra under the bench for my son and a third on the way (Tiger 60). I love building. :)

ill probably catch flack for this but get some BLUE locktite and slap on the crank. that way the nut will not spin off again.. and make sure you put a decent amount of torque to it ... and let it sit for a while so the loctite sets up.. and youll be in like flint!!!! works wonders for me.. i locktite everything i get my grubby little hands on!! hehehehe

congrats on your first few flights.... its a great hobby to have!!!

I thought of loctite, but was told that it wasn't done. I got a metric wrench and torqued it pretty good. It's not comming off by itself again.
