What bonds metal to plastic?
Hey Guys, My fuel pump stopped working. I took it apart. The motor rod (metal) is suposed to be attached to a plastic wheel. But the wheel has slipped off the metal rod. What can I use to glue metal to plastic?
Thanks! Tim |
RE: What bonds metal to plastic?
I'd try a little JB weld. Make sure there is no oil or fuel residue on the pieces and try to give the adhesive something to bite by scuffing the parts up if possible. It may work. If not, it could be time for a new pump.

Gorilla glue; it say can glue to metal and plastic, but I don't know if it can glue em together. One thing; it takes awhile to dry ( about 2 hours) but very good stuff

RE: What bonds metal to plastic?
I have used JB weld to glue Brass to plastic. Have to rough up the plastic surface to get a good grip. It was a brass nipple into a plastic radiator neck. The repair outlasted the Radiator, lasting some 4 years.
There are also some epoxies from 3m and special epoxies from Hysol that are a lot more money. JB weld has worked very good for me. Good Luck |
RE: What bonds metal to plastic?
I had the same problem, I tried to fix it and finally got a new pump. I got a Hangar 9 pump and if I had it to do over again I would get one of those big white handpumps that squeese a tube-they seem less likely to leak

RE: What bonds metal to plastic?
Hey Guys
I tried to drill through it and put a grub screw in. The grub didn't really bit, but it did push in some plastic and make it a tighter fit and it is now working again. (for now). I may try to think of a more permanent solution. I know it's only $13, but hell, it only took a few minutes and it's up and going. If it breaks again I'll maybe have a new solution in my head already Tim |

Clean it and use CA on it.
