Beginner. Some doubts... Need some help!

Dear guys,

My name is Marcelo, i'm a beginner in the aeromodel world and i have some doubts here and need some help.

First of all, i know the begining is a little bit hard and i have to start with a trainner model. I talked with a local builder that have a great plane called Ventura with a .45 tiger motor. This model is a great option because has a lower price and easy to maintain. Well, with this i want to ask some about radio control, servos and recivers.
I want to pratice with determination and i hope to buy a Aeroworks Extra 260 with DL motors 50cc. Here the questions:

1 - for this aeroworks plane, what radio control from futaba i can use? I'm thinling to use a 7c 2.4Ghz.
2 - Which servo can i use and how much? In the aeroworks manual tell us to use 7 servos but a 8 chanels receiver. Can i use a R617FS futaba receiver?

Well thats all,

thanks a lot for any help here,

Marcelo:D

That sounds like a great plane but is in no way a beginer plane. I would get a trainer.

You are not nearly ready to fly an Extra and I don't know what your "Ventura" is. The only Ventura's I could find were small electric planes or twin engine so they don't meet your description.

You need to look here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4537845/tm.htm for a suitable beginner plane or you will find this an expensive and frustrating hobby.

I could not find a nitro trainer called the/a "Ventura" so I do not know what exactly your local builder freind is trying to sell you. You also state that it has a .45 "tiger" motor. I am guessing that is either Super Tiger or Thunder Tiger??? Of the two I prefer Thunder Tiger for reliability and power. Perhaps you could provide some pictures or more detail.

As far as the 50cc Aeroworks Extra 260 is concerned I agree, it is a beutiful plane and I was lucky enough to pick one up used at the end of last summer. I am using a JR 9303 2.4 Ghz transmitter and a 9 channel receiver for mine. The plane calls for the use of 6 servos with the optional use of a 7th for the engines choke valve. So if you do not use that 7th servo you should be able to use your Futaba 7C radio.

I see on the Aeroworks site that it says 8 channel minimum for this plane but it's just not passing the logic test... or I'm not. So if I am missing anything here please speak up.

Ch 1 (Aileron) Plug 1 aileron servo in here
Ch 2 (Elevator) Plug one Elevator Servo in here
Ch 3 (Throtle) Plug the Throttle servo in here
Ch 4 (Rudder) Plug the rudder servo in here
Ch 5 (Landing gear) Plug your battery switch in here
Ch 6 (Flaps) Plug the other aileron servo in here and mix with ailerons for propper function
Ch 7 (Aux 1) Plug the other elevator servo in here and mix with elevator for propper function

You can also use a Y-harness on the Ailerons to and free up the Flap channel for use on a choke servo I would rather operate the choke manually and have the channel mixxing options.

part of that set up is for "flaperons" connecting 1 alieron to ch 1 and the other to ch 6, use the Y-harness into ch 1 if you don't want them

You are a long way from flying that Extra. The Extra is a big gasser, I would guess the rig would cost well over $2000 US to get in the air. You will need very high quality High Torque servos in a plane like that and I would suggest that you progress from classic trainer to a 4 Star (.60 or 1.20 size as you want to get to bigger aircraft), then move to something like a smaller Extra before you move to the 50 cc gasser. That is a lot of plane!

I have been flying for two years and moved to a 4 Star 60 at the end of last season, moving to a smaller war bird along with the 4 Star in the spring, then on to a twin. The Extra is easily a third or forth plane.

good luck!

Could be for dual ailerons or dual elevator servos. Haven't seen the manual so just a WAG.:D

Use ch 5 for choke or eng kill if desired.
