Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
OK,
This is an extract from another thread, but a couple of us are talking about meeting up to fly at Bryant Lake Park In Eden Prairie on Jan 31st (this Saturday). This will NOT be a sponsored event, but an informal gathering of folks to get out and enjoy the warm (33 degrees baby!) weather and meet some faces. I will be out there between 1 and 1:30 that day and hopefully the weather will hold out. Bring whatever you would like to fly. Hopefully we can have a half-dozen or so people there to make it fun, otherwise, I will enjoy the open air space myself. Directions: The lake can be difficult to find for some, because it is located within EP (the Bermuda Triangle). Easiest way to get there would be to take Hwy 62 to Shady Oak Rd (between 494 and 169). Turn south on S.O.R. and drive about 1/4 mile, while looking for the Brown sign for Bryant Lake Regional Park. Turn right and follow the road to the entrance, turn left into the park and follow the signs to the Boat Launch. At the launch, drive onto the lake and turn left and go into the center of the lake (I have been driving my pickup on the lake for nearly a month now, the ice is more than 2 feet thick). There is more room to fly in the center of the lake than there is on Bush Lake. If you get to Woodale Church before you see the signs, you have gone about one block too far. PM me if you have any questions. Regards, Curtis |

I am available and was all set to say, "Ok" until I read the part about driving on the lake. [sm=what_smile.gif][sm=75_75.gif][sm=72_72.gif]
I'll get something ready, but I'm not making any promises :D |
RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Mike,
I can pick you up on shore and you can ride in the back of my truck if you'd like. Otherwise, we are just out front of the beach at this park too, so it may not be too far to walk. C |
RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
We'll see.
Now, should I bring the Seawind or the Northstar? (The wife will be making the trip with me, so I can only fit one big one) |
RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Count me and my girlfriend in:D We've been waiting to get some airtime...I'll be bringing a Hangar 9 Piper J3 Cub and my gf (Allison) will be brining her Mulitplex MiniMag w/floats. I'm planing on an 11-12pm arrival that day - since I'm going to reserve that entire day for flying. Oh, I'll be hauling a dark green ford escape hybrid and a bright red Georgia Bulldogs hat. Xcellent! We'll c everyone there! _andrew & allison

RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Tough choice. Could bring both and leave the wife home :D Only kidding. It was fun to see that Northstar zipping around at the FF last September, but I don't think i saw the Seawind. You could bring the little one and the big Northstar, if it is going. To give you a little more confidence of the conditions out there... http://www.startribune.com/local/385...DiaMDCinchO7DU
C P.S. I have a black Toyota Tundra and may bring the flipup fish house in case anyone wants to use it as a warming house. (will have a heater too). |

Do you know if ski's would work on the lake? I don't have my float plane ready yet :( but I have 60 size skis that I could but on my tiger.

RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Jon,
They should work fine. I have been flying my Nexstar off of Bryant for a while and have had few problems. C |
RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Cool, I will try to make it out there on Saturday, we will see how my weekend goes.

RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Jim,
If you have a little cash to spend, pick up a set of the MaidenMP skis at one of the LHS, and you will be set. Otherwise, if you fly small stuff, Dubro makes some park flyer skis and I think Hub Hobby in Richfield stocks them. Either way, hope to see you out there, Curtis |
RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Jim, stop out and say hello, even if you don't have anything to fly

RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Question:
I will be spending part of the day at my daughter's house in Plymouth. Is there a hobby shop between the lake and Plymouth? I need one 3mm x 20 screw and don't want to go all the way to Bloomington. |

MinnFlyer -
The only one I know is Hobby Zone that is right on the edge of Plymouth (www.hobbyzone.com). 2415 Annapolis Lane N, #D140 Plymouth, MN 55441 763-268-0580 (local) I'm not sure they stock nuts & bolts, however, I'm going to be hitting up Hub Hobby in Richfield as I do every other day:), and I'd be happy to pick some stuff up for you. And no, a Saito .90 is out of the question..... |

RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Nice MinnFlyer..... :) I'll nab some gear for you and see you at the lake!

RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
Great, thanks!

RE: Minnesota Frozen Float Fly Jan 31st
If you need anything else, there is another shop, a Hobbytown USA off of Hwy 7 right between Plymouth and EP. Their address is 11319 Hwy 7 Minnetonka, MN 55305.
