2.4 receivers
[sm=72_72.gif]I have an airtronics rds8000 2.4 Tx.Is there a 'generic' or'brandX'Rx that will bind with my radio?

RE: 2.4 receivers
Nope. Why?

RE: 2.4 receivers
No, all current 2.4 GHz radio equipment is proprietary. Which means that you have to use the brand of receiver as the radio. You'll need to use an Airtronics receiver.

RE: 2.4 receivers
Welcome to 2.4ghz. By choosing it, you've given up the ability to pick from a wide variety of third-party receivers. That's because each manufacturer's 2.4ghz implementation is proprietary. There's no industry standard, such as PPM (FM). That will never change. You've only got one choice in brands, Airtronics. And because Airtronics has the weakest lineup of 2.4ghz receivers, you only have one receiver choice, their 8-channel. As time goes by Airtronics will introduce additional models for you to choose from, but for now... you're stuck.

RE: 2.4 receivers
Spektrum/JR has the largest selection of 2.4GHz receivers right now, probably because they were the first to introduce 2.4GHz aircraft radios.
The Airtronics 8ch is probably the most bang for the buck, but the down side is the lack of receiver choices. Personally, in that price range I'd get the Spektrum DX6i. It has two less channels, but you have lots of receiver choices. But that's just my opinion. |
RE: 2.4 receivers
Airtronics will be releasing several new receivers for their 2.4 Ghz radio system shortly. I don't have all the details but I do know that one of those will be a small receiver suitable for park flyer or small foam planes. Minnflyer and I will be interviewing Mike Greenshields of Global Hobby in Toledo this year and I'm expecting to have more news on these new receivers then.

RE: 2.4 receivers
That's great news, Ken. Thanks for updating us.
I have older Airtronics radios, RD6000 and a newer RD8000 and love them. I do, however, have a Spektrum DX7 that I bought when they first came out. I love it too. But I am going to pick up an RDS8000 mainly due to my loyalty to Airtronics. I wish they would the Stylus back on the availability list. CGr. |
RE: 2.4 receivers
The Stylus is being replaced by the new SD-10G radio system, CGRetired:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8208862/tm.htm You can't buy a new Stylus, but Airtronics is expected to release a 2.4Ghz upgrade module for the Stylus at the same time they start shipping the new SD-10G radio system and the additional 2.4Ghz receivers. Mike Greenshield's best guess as of late is early April; he said he expects these products to be ready to ship around the time of the Toledo Weak Signals show. |
