Just recived my GreatPlanes PT-40 Trainer can't find the control surface hinges the only piece
that looks like the drawing is a piece of stiff cloth about 6"x2" can this be it! just cut into hinges? I can't see how
I can use CA FAST on 4 of thiese pieces at rhe same time to attach a rudder without the glue drying before I
have everything lined-up

Ya know, you are right. You gave me quite a laugh there. They could be clearer couldn't they. Assemble the whole hinge. Get it lined up nicely then wick some ca into the hinge line. It will wick into both sides very nicely.

. . .and yes cut the Mylar into pieces 3/4 or and inch square and slide them into the slots you cut for them

Just Google "install CA hinges" and you will get lots of suggestions. Try this one by Troy Newman. He's one of the more talented people around here.

Yes, that strip of stiff material is it. Cut it lengthwise into two 6x1" strips, then cut them about 3/4" wide.

You don't insert one hinge, glue it, and then do the next one - You insert all of the hinges, add the control surface and then glue them all in one shot.

I did a detailed "How To" on the PROPER way to install CA Hinges. Give it a look, because installing them improperly can easily lead to a hinge failure!

Thank's for the help the link's are great.
Started building today did the tail and two sides had to stop untill I
get out and buy some drill bit's for the firewall.
I just want to say THANK'S for all the help over the last week you guys toled me
what plane to buy/engine/Tx. Etc. now will I ever get this glue off my finger tip's?

wzak29 I just got back into rc and the PT-40 is the first kit I have built. It was a fairly easy build and a lot of fun. Good luck on yours.

One reminder (because this has been said before, but you may not have read it). When you do CA them in place, as Minn said, do them all on the surface you are working on at one time (one at a time.. that is.. :D ) but the instructions may or may not say.. 5 or 6 drops of CA on each side. Do the top or bottom first, flip it over and to the other side.

Then DO NOT.. repeat.. DO NOT re-apply CA. Do the 5 or 6 drops all at one time, then turn it over. Once you do one side, then the other, leave it alone. The CA will wick in and do it's job. If you re-apply CA, it will cause the hinge to become unbonded with the wood which will definitely causey you problems at the most inopportune time.. yeah, while flying!!

That's a good point Dick...

Once all of the hinges are in place and the control surface is attached, Start on the bottom and add 5 or 6 drops to each hinge.

Then flip and repeat on the top.

Then do NOT add any more glue to them - ever!

PS, yes, the glue will eventually come off your fingers, but more importantly, don't go to the bathroom until it has fully cured! :D

sandpaper, say 100 grit gets most of it. I use sanding sticks, the type used in beauty parlors on fingernails.

Also, very important not to breath the ca vapors. Always put a fan on low and blow across your work area. Just about everyone who doesn't becomes allergic to the ca sooner or later.
