Hobbyzone Super Cub issues
 

Hey guys I've made several successful flights with this plane but there is one persistant problem I am having with it. The motor stops and starts if it gets more than 25-30 yards away from me. I've heard that these channel 27 planes have more probs w/ interference and range issues but I would think this thing would go farther out than this. My Father in Law has the same plane and has not had this problem.

A few pertinent details:

I've flown at two different places with no other RC activity in the area.

My transmitter antenna is broken off about half way but this problem was noted before this miscue.

I haven't tested it thouroughly yet (tommorrow) but it seems the control servos still function when the motor is cutting out.

Any ideas?

Yeah I know. The thing just popped in two right at the joint between two segments. It's not like I horsed it and it bent or snapped. Really poorly made antenna. I've got two other TX's that i thought I'd just switch the antenna with temporarily but they are both female and this one is male[:@] Go figure!

do you have the act off or disabled? if you are using it then that is cutting your motor. I also have one and have flown it ....and flown it ...........and flown it some more! many hours, I have found the connectors on the battery to the plane will also cause this, I have had mine deadstick on me many times due to the poor plug connection. Other than that I dont know, thats been the reasons on mine. hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. The ACT is off. I think it may be the battery connection but I don't know what I can do about that since it has the plastic quick disconnect that also fits with the charger.

change everything over to deans connectors, Not hard to do, just need to do a little soldering and some heat shrink, hobby shop will have everything you need, makes for a much better electrical setup, especially if your cub lasts as long as mine has, my boys are learning to fly with it now............this things lasts better than a high school car! might make it through 2 kids!

If you do change over to the deans' , and thats a good idea remember you must change your charger plug also. Its best to have the battery being the female, so that it won't short out when toughing things.

There are different size deans plugs also, don't know which might need. The cub is a very good plane , fun to fly even if a person knows how to fly.

I think I will convert the connections to the dean style. Thanks for the tip. Can you get better performance on this brushed motor by connecting a LiPoly battery to it? Seems like I've read that you can get better performance this way.

I use a 1350mah 3cell Rhino from Hobbycity.com ($20). You have to trim the inside of the battery box a little to fit it in, but it will climb staight up and flies for 20min+.

Borrow the father in law's antennae and see if that fixes the cut off problem...Rog
