complete noob question

hey guys, i am mainly into cars and i wanted to get something real cheap. every time i go to an expo or practically any hobby shop i always see those 30 dollar kits for the tiny little planes that look like the red baron plane. not very realistic, more just a bunch of sticks, but i was wondering what those are called.

You are probably talking about the Guillow's balsa and tissue kits.

Like this?

In my opinion, these kits are harder to build than a larger r/c plane. Especially some of the older die-cut kits.

You gotta spend atleast $100 for a good RTF plane, hobby grade. That other stuff is toy grade.
Alot of people buy the Hobbyzone Supercub as their first plane, $160 RTF.
