I am not happy with the ca hinges I received with my G.P PT-40 MKII
Can I use these nylon hinges.

Yes, those are pretty good hinges. I like the Dubro maybe a little better?? I would have to take a look but I think the Dubros are a bit thinner is all, I have them both in my building box. I started using Pacer Hinge Glue again too, it's water clean up and holds very well.

you could spend another 7.50 on hinges, but for this plane http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJ557&P=0 there a tried and true method for hinging control surfaces.

whats there not to be happy with,other than needing to cut them from a hinge strip having many models with CA hinges including a couple of ARF warbirds they work good when installed corectly, and are light in weight.

I have had planes with CA hinges that became worn out in other areas without ever having any trouble with the CA hinges

Just one of those choice things. I have probably tried every type of hinge that has been offered without any real problems with any of them. I just like the Dubro flat hinges or the hinge pins for my own planes. I like yellow airplanes too!!

I have a old Sig Kadet LT 40 that's gone through three CA hinges on the tip of the left aileron in 200 flights.

I've never heard it but I know it flutters there or the hinges wouldn't be breaking

I would say they do look like a nice hinge. Most poeple with larger faster aircraft use pinned hinges. thier just better. For my pt 40 I used the ca hinges in the kit with now problems. If youre new to flying, You are going to beat the pants off her . Most trainers dont last long enough to wear out the hinge anyway. I would buy them for youre 3rd airplane ,because youre second plane will be a low wing trainer. (Ive murderd 3 trainer planes before I could fly)

If this is only your first few airplanes and you have no experiance otherwise and only reacting to hearsay on the forums then you I suggest you actually give them a try. They work and they work well and they are most ideal on trainers and typical sport airplanes. I have used them for years in a wide variety of aircraft and will continure to do so, not every one but most.

Tyically when inspecting new airplanes for folks the most frequent botched hinging jobs are done by folks who just had to change out hinge types for their first airplanes because they thought they knew better.

Well, the hinges that came with my Venus II and my Excelleron 90 are CA hinges. And, those are pattern type aerobatic aircraft. And, both planes still fly and fly great.

If properly installed, (as with just about anything else), CA hinges will be just fine in that aircraft, or pretty much any other aircraft you fly.

Many serious aerobatic pilots have been using CA hinges in everything they fly with absolutely no apprehension. And these guys spend a lot of money on their aircraft, much more than I have spent, that's for sure, and have complete confidence in them.

I have used them all. I have had the pinned hinges fail, I actually wore out out the old pinned hinge, granted it took about 5 years of flying it every weekend. Some of the CA hinges I have used were really stiff, the ones I just installed this weekend on my Formula 3D are pretty soft. I fold them in half both ways then glue in. To me, the pinned have less friction then CA, but CA are a lot easier to install. Plus on CA hinges, you can not glue the joint together like I have done with pinned hinges.

On a trainer, use the CA hinge, keep it simple.

Their is a great article in -model airplane news- magazine ( april 2009 issue ) giving a close look at the types of hinges and how to install them ...... Yes Most expert pilots will use ca hinges in high dollar large scale aerobatic planes, but they use ( alot) (alot) of them. thus helps spread out the load. Also keeping hinge gaps tight and centered help minamize Fllutter.
