I bought a Great Planes PT-40 MKII from Tower Hobbies on 1/28/09
invoice number 14449585 this is my first kit and I love it.

I have been working on the plane for the last month and everything was
going great very good, instructions and photos are great. I am now ready
to cover the plane and install the control surfaces. I cut the slots for
the ca hinges for the tail no problem but when I tried to do the
ailerons I have a problem. Both ailerons are warped when I place the
left aileron against the TE of the wing the aileron touches the tip of
the wing and at the center root but it is bowed in the center (the
center is ½ inch from the wing). On the right aileron if I place the
center root against the wing there is a 3/8 gap at the tip. The warp on
both ailerons are parallel to the grain I was tolled that this is very
hard to get out. I have looked for ailerons but can't find any that size
and I am a beginner kit builder not very skilled in making parts can you
please help me.

very good example of good customer service - nice work GP!

Just an fyi, you can get Aileron stock from the LHS for a couple of bucks, if that is easier for you, or you want to move forward with the build.

Ailerons are one of the last things I do on a build.

I had 2 of the same planes (still have one, the other is a sad story!) you will love it, I hope you did not build the A wing, the B wing is more than enough.

Good luck!

manks

Several months ago I purchased one of their CG balancers. It was missing one of the posts that ride against the leading edge of the wing to position the plane at the right point on the balancer. I called to ask for the part, which they don't carry, so they just sent me a complete machine. No questions asked.

Can't beat that for service.

Great Planes has always been top drawer in my book. They have always stood behind what they sell and been right on top of fixing any problems that have arisen. Now if only we could convince them to bring back some of the old kits from years past, hint hint hint. Good Luck, Dave

This is an example of a company who knows who actually pays the bills and provides the paychecks.... their customer.

Yes, their stuff may sometimes cost a little more but they provide you with something extra too.

I've only been slightly disappointed one time with one of their products but to be honest, I never really gave them a chance to solve the situation.

A lot of people just say "buy brand-x it's the same thing for a lot less". Unfortunateyl, it is almost never the same product and absolutely never the same level of service & support.

Great Planes/Hobbico is not alone in their great service. I've been treated very well by Horizon Hobby and Sig too.

I totaly agree that great planes is GREAT =) The only problem I`ve had with their models was the covering on their 1/3 scale pitts. Sendt them an email and they gave me many options. Way to go:)
