Aileron servo
 

I am installing my aileron servo and in my instruction manual for the plan the pics look like the servo is installed with the wheel at the top then the diagram they have servo wheel at the bottom. Does it matter which direction it is?

Umm.. what model is it? And if you have a picture to describe what you mean by servo wheel on the top or servo wheel on the bottom.

It is the PT 40 and the wheel part im talking about is the servo arm thing. I dont have a way to put a pic on my computer is almost dead lol.

Well, let me see. the servo control arm only goes in one place. Top or bottom, I guess it you put the servo on a table with the servo shaft on the top, then that's the top of the servo.

There is only one servo shaft and that's where the servo arm goes.

The servo goes in the wing servo tray so that the servo arm, disk, whatever you wish to use, is on the outside of the wing. When put in the plane, of course, the wing is right-side up (on top of the plane) but the servo is on the bottom of the wing, but the arm/disk, whatever you use, is under the wing and will then be inside the plane, and will be upside down.. if you get my meaning.

That's the only way I can figure out what you mean and hope that helps.

You can put it either way, if your control rods are long enough I would put the "wheel" it towards the front of the wing so you have a little more room for error for postioning the rods. I would also take off the wheel and put one of the hex or star shaped servo arms on to get more range for setting throw. The wheels work better on the throttle servo or the elevator, the rudder/nose wheel work better with the hex or star arms. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the info I just put it in like on the plans with the arm part towards the bottom, or back of the wing, not very good at explaining things :eek:

The front of the wing is the leading edge, and the back of the wing is the trailing edge.

Do yourself a favour and ditch the single servo on the PT-40. I did a mod on mine, and but in two aileron servos, it is much easier to get them set up correctly and I had a problem with the servo control rods in the original config, they have a tendency to be blocked if the wing is not on perfectly. There is also a bit more redundency with two servos, if you lose one for some reason you should have enough control to get back down, it would not be great, but it would work.

Some will tell you that two servos is overkill in that plane, but it has worked out well for me. I have had two, one build with a single servo, the other with two, and I can tell you the second is a much better airplane. BTW - the mod will take about 30 minutes, really easy to do.

This is a person new to RC, manks . He is having basic growing pains, as we all did, with his new PT40. The conversion to dual aileron servos is a tad bit complex at this point. GIve him a break.
