I think what you are talking about is the trial membership. If you then decide to join they will credit what you paid on the trial one. http://www.modelaircraft.org/aboutama.aspx

That's what I did in order to spread out the cost a little.

Standard dues for "Full, Open Membership" are $58 per year. If you join (this type of membership) after the end of the first quarter, your second year dues may be reduced http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/912.pdf

There used to be a $20 deal for 90 day 'Trial Membership' that could be extended to the full year by paying the additional $38 but I do not see it listed on the AMA website or on the application. Maybe I missed it but I looked at the link goirish posted and did not see it.

The AMA Ambassador program http://www.modelaircraft.org/ambassador.aspx is a way to get a year free by recruiting 3 new members.

Dues for those who join the Park Pilot program (http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/918.pdf)(http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/919.pdf) are $29.95 per year.

You can still sign up for the 3 month trial membership. It's one of the options under join/renew

[color=#FF0099]Gentlemen,
I'm curious though about the Park Pilot membership. You can only fly a plane up to 2 lbs. We are concerned at our field because people must sign up for an "Approved Flyer" badge at the park office. You must show a current AMA card and your ID to get it (free) so that you can fly at Markham. We have an electric field for the park flyers, but anyone can go into the pit area, and frankly, you can fly anything from our runway.... So how can you control when someone bumps up to larger planes (as most will, once the addiction hits them:D ) but don't have the full open AMA card, only the Park Pilot one. Any suggestions?

Bev

Do you have posted on your flight board what the restrictions are for park flyer. That way if they do bump up, it is easy to show them the rules for park flyers, no hurt feelings.

Although it hasn't been a problem for us yet, we give the person a clearly marked club membership card that identifies them as a park pilot. If they are flying a plane thats questionable, we'll just ask, and then gently remind them that its outside the bounds of their membership.

Not trying to get too far off the path of the OP, but exactly what constitutes a park flyer? Certain motor size (electric) or weight or wingspan?

poo.... didn't know it would all go pink...:D

To answer the park flyer question (or muddy the waters even more) I think it's anything under 2 lbs, electric and on 27mhz... If I'm wrong...someone please clarify that for me.

the Pink sure got my attention...glad to see you here Bev....I know the insurance coverage is not the same between Park fliers and Open membership....we like to see all fliers post there AMA card, if they're 2.4, on a board similar to a freq board.
that way you can check the membership status...I like the Idea of a membership card you wear to give your status

To qualify for the AMA Park Pilot program the plane as to be under 2 lbs and fly slower than 60 mph. There is no restrictions on what the radio is in it. Also, it must have a "silent" power system, meaning electric or something similar that is quiet.
