goldberg

Completed my first kit G.P. PT-40MKII just need to add servos. I live in N.Y. and have two more months of winter to kill and I loved building the PT-40 so much I wanted to spend the rest of the winter building a second kit. I like this Goldberg anniversary piper cub (not the clipped wing) one of the things I like is the big 76” wing. I remember reading in a thread that someone bought Goldberg and now these kit’s are not very good what do you think.

I have built two of these cubs and I have flown the rest of them - This one IMHO is the best.

But when you build it, you have the option of clipping the wing. Two words - DO IT!!!! (It's very simple to do during the build)

The original Piper Cub was designed back in the 1920's. They made the wing TOO BIG to make up for the lack of engine power. In the 30's pilots discovered that if you put a real engine in it and made the wing a normal size (Wing to fuse ratio) that it flew MUCH better.

Unfortunately, people think that clipping the wing is going to make it a more radical plane, when in fact, clipping the wing makes it easier to fly.

Look around on the RCU classifieds and/or eBay. There are still a lot of older (pre-Lanier) kits floating around out there.

If I remember correctly the original box is cream colored and has printing and photos on all sides.

The older kits were die cut but the newer ones are laser cut. You'd think laser cutting would be nicer but the laser is unfortunately only as good as the data you feed it.

Now that Hobbico has bought up Goldberg, the quality of the kits may be on the rebound, who knows.
