Help with engine purchase
 

Are the tower hobbies abc style engines any good ???? I am seriously considering buying the .75 for a SPAD project but I would really like to know if anyone has had good luck with them, the price is perfect.

Plenty of people like them just fine and the price is good. As a rule they are deemed as not as good as an OS (but THIS IS JUST MY OPINION and it is only worth what you paid for it!)

GREAT!! thanks a mint guys, my brother does not really have the money for a new airframe, motor etc. We want to keep his nexstar for his kids to learn with or we would just transfer things.

He can afford the rx and servos or the engine.I will buy him this engine then I am going to build him a 4mm coro airframe, that will look remarkably like I followed the dimensions of the Tiger 60 kit or something,no no inspired by, not copied...

A buddy of ours has one of these corotigers that is an amazing flyer, he is going to help me with the build. he says at least the .75 engine is a must so I was hoping for the tower brand :D

I just got my tower .75 a few months ago ( when they finally came back in stock ), it's only been on the bench so far but it seems alright, on a sidenote, have a heatgun ready for the first times you start it, this thing was so tight it wouldn't turnover unless it was heated, also when you put the prop on make sure the drive washer doesn't bottom out on the crankcase, mine did and i had to add a small washer between the bearing and drive washer cone, also put some loctite on the carb barrel screw, mine fell out on the second run, luckily i found it.

One other thing i did was remove the backplate and head to check for leftover machining shavings, i did find a small pc inside the cylinder, it's better to find out if it's clean before you start the engine for the first time although if there is anything inside and it does damage there's always warranty.

So far i'm happy with this engine and now that it's getting warmer out i will have to get it on my Super Stick 60 and get flying.

I just finished the break-in (on the bench) of a TH .75. This engine really screams and it has a really smooth throttle transition with no hesitation. I did have a problem with the muffler can wanting to rotate off the muffler but I double nutted the retainer screw and that solved the problem. For the price these are hard engines to beat.

Look at this thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1201120/tm.htm on the "Cor-Star 60" which is a tribute to the SIG Four Star 60. There's nothing wrong with being inspired by someone else's project.

I also fly with my brother. We have a great time together and share a lot of equipment. If one of us needs a servo/receiver/prop/etc the other usually has one in the drawer.

Well I love my balsa wood, monkote covered planes for how they look, but I have built a couple of these SPAD planes now, and for simplicity, function, durability and price there is no equal, they will never look as pretty as that perfect covered goldberg or sig but they fly great and even in a bad crash you can likely be flying again in an hour or less
perfect air frames for someone with a little tighter budget
