Curious !!!

Hey all,

I was just wondering  if it is possible to use a Gas engine on a 60 size trainer instead of a glow engine?

Any recommendations ???

the smallest gas engine i know of is the zenoah g20ei
http://www.rcuniverse.com/product_gu...engine_id=1362
they sell it at horizionhobby.com
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ntent=ZENG20ei

does anyone know why they cant make them smaller, is it a carb issue or something like that.

I suppose you could if you wanted to spend that kind of money on an engine for a .60 size plane.... And what you have to do to the plane to use gas is much different than it is for glow, probably more complex and more costly.

Gas engines are usually used in larger planes that hav eboth the room and the need for such an engine.

Now that's not my opinion because opinions are usually based on some fact. The only fact I can give you is that they are quite a bit more expensive than glows of the same size... yeah, even four strokes or OS engines.. :D and the rest, well, that's more of informed guesswork.

then there is the weight factor to be considered and the balance has to be adjusted by adding weight to the tail etc.then there is the sheilding to prevent rf to the radio.if you want to go gas then get a giant trainer.nosen had one years ago and there should be others that I can't remember

Some of the new gas engines that have just come out of China are very cheap even compared to a glow engine. The smallest gasser I have is a 1.40 RCS [not cheap] but it's still a 22cc high performance engine and if the weight wasn't a problem then the added horse power could be, vibration could also factor in. Maybe not a good idea for a trainer but I have seen the RCS 1.40 used on the CG 60 size Extra. Still a lot of over kill!!

anyone ever used one of these
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._V2_Gas_engine

shipping is $27 for parcels and $37 for ems
so about $160 shipped
price is good, does anyone know how good they are?

Jimmyjames,

Here is a link to a nice 26cc gasser, good price, and the company that sells it is in florida
so you will at least have some product support.

i was reading about that engine
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_64...y_XY-26/tm.htm
seems to be a steal
i fly .40 sized now, id like to go bigger but nitro prices limit me. (i fly the heck out of my planes :D )
so gas might be the way to go.

Thank you all.

After reading all of your suggestions and comments, I think I should stick to glow engine for my trainer. Most of what you all said makes much more sense.

Any idea on where I can get good deals on glow engines?

look in engine conversions in the engine forum for a ryobi conversion by COMBATPILOT. He is a good flyin' buddy of mine and is rather good at the mechanical stuff.Tthese type of conversions take a little work but are not very expensive...well this is RC you can spend as much as you got! He has reduced the weight significantly. I watched him take of all the excess aluminum one one with a die grinder, didn't take very long!

towerhobbies.com
get a tower .75 or a gms .76
from what i have heard both are very good engines for the price

Hobbypeople.net has been having some amazing deals on Magnum engines lately.

Of course I love O.S. engines and I have a hard time buying anything other than OS or YS engines.

BME had a .90 on gas
As mentionad,as you move up, get a gasser ,40 or definately 50cc makes most sense for performance machines.
