Servos for Pulse 60

Just got a Pulse 60 ARF. The manual calls for JR digital servos and it seems the cut outs for the servos are smaller than those for a Futaba which I usually use. The question is will JR servos work with my T7CAP radio? Will i have to get a JR receiver or will a Futuba receiver work with the JR servos?

Yes, JR servos will work just fine with a Futaba receiver. However, there is no reason why you can't use Futaba servos with that plane. It's a 60 size plane so standard Futaba servos will be ok to use here. Those cutouts for the servos are usually the same size. If it is indeed small for a Futaba servo simply open it up a bit and use the Futaba, there is no need to run out and buy JR servos if you don't have to. Remember when you read things in the manual like that that Hangar 9 and JR are both brands carried by Horizon hobby, so of course Hangar 9 is going to recommend JR servos. It's the same thing as Great Planes manuals recommending Futaba for their planes.

you dont have to stick to jr servos, if you have some good futaba servos put them in, yeah youmay need to trim the opening toallow for the servo to fit in but just because it says jr servos inthe manual dosntmeanyou have to go out and buy them, belive it or not jr will have paidfor the company to print that in as its advertisment and people new tothe hobby like yourself goout and buy them as the manual sujests them, i think other people on here would agree any pictures of it as from what iv heard there a very nice plane

I built my Pulse XT 60 using JR Sport ST47 servos and they work great, and I think they are the same size as Futaba standard servos. I would go with standard Futaba servos, 3003 or 3004, I am not very familiar with Futaba servo numbers?

You will really like this plane.:D

The dimensions of the JR 821 servo are (WxLxH):0.74"x1.50"x1.47"

The Futaba 3003/3004 is 1.6" x 0.8 x 1.4"

So they are pretty close. Just enlarge the holes slightly

i am looking forward to this plane, it is my first sport and i was torn between this and the 4*. From these posts, it seems that digital servos are not necessary. Thanks for the help as usual.

I've flown the Pulse and you're in store for a good flying plane. IMHO the Pulse is Hangar 9's answer to the 4-Stars. They are very similar and target a lot of the same market. I think that the Pulse flies a tad bit better than the 4-star though. It definitely knife edge's better than the 4-star, that's for sure. I did one from one end of our field to the other with a Pulse.

And one of my old students just bought his second Pulse 60 this week. I agree, I like to fly it better then the 4*s. Any standard servo is just fine with this plane too, it's not a real ball of fire stunt plane so standards are just great!! My old student is using a OS .55 AX and that is plenty of power too. I'm not a real big fan of ARFs but this is one of the better ones I have gotten to fly, it is well built enough to take some of those not so great landings without falling apart, mater of fact it is a pretty stout little plane, easy to rebuild too, just ask my old student!!:D

I just got finished putting this ARF together. You are right about the servos. I was going to use Futaba 3004's, but they wouldn't fit the slots provided unless you trimmed them out. I did open the slot in the wing panels to use the 3004's, but didn't want take the time to open the ones in the fuselage so I went to the LHS and bought the JR 521's and they dropped right in. There is the slightest dimension difference and the JR's won out. I plugged them right into my Futaba R617 rx, using the 7C tx, a Saito .91 in the nose and it is a blast to fly!

Have fun.

Sounds like I made a good choice. I would like to put a Saito up front but have to watch the $$$'s these days. Will most likely go with the Super Tiger 70 series; maybe the next plane, but don't let my wife know!:D

A Super Tigre G-75 on the nose of a Pulse XT .60 should be a lot of fun! Post a picture or two when you've got everything about all ready to go.

I have been flying one with a OS 61 FX on it for the past year. You will love the way it flys:D!
