90 size engine on a Pulse XT 60
Hi All,
Has anyone had experience with a 90 size engine on a Pulse XT 60? This will be my second model after the NexStar. Am I getting too much power for a second model? Will the Pulse XT even accomodate a 90 engine? Also, I know O.S. seems to be the gold standard, but since the 90 sized two strokes are $230, it also impacts the budget. I've heard good things about ThunderTigre 90s, but they are nearly $200 as well and don't come with a muffler. I've also heard mixed reviews about the ST 90 when searching this forum. Can anyone recommend a good alternative to an OS 90 that is reliable and easy to start and tune? Thanks. |
RE: 90 size engine on a Pulse XT 60
Yeah.. the OS .75 AX. It will pull that 60 size plane around just fine. I have a Goldberg Skylark 70 and the OS .75 does wonders with that plane. AND, as per your request, it is just about the easiest engine I have to start. I fuel it up, prime it, hook up the glow driver, and whack the prop in the backwards direction (against the compression) and it starts up on either the first or second try. Then, once warm, well, it starts up on the first try each time, every time.
Fine engine. CGr. |

Look at the magnum engines. The 91 was on sale not long ago for $100 and then $139 and regular price $159. I have no problems with my magnums both 2 ST and 4ST Very good engines and will pull that pulse around just fine

RE: 90 size engine on a Pulse XT 60
I have a OS 90 AX in my Pulse. It runs fantastic and does not lack for power. In the Denver area
you should look at upping the power of any plane by from a quarter to a third. The power loss at that altitude will be noticable when running stock power plants. |

Tower Hobbies 75. Most bang for the buck.
Pulse XT 60 flys very nicely with this engine. |
RE: 90 size engine on a Pulse XT 60
I have the OS .91fx. I figure I can always back off the throttle and it will probably be moved into my next plane. When that happens I will put the .61fx in for my son to fly. I am interested in what anyone else is running for props on this combination. I am considering a 15x8 but will have to change the landing gear. I dont know if they make an appropriate 3 blade.

Have a Saito 100 on my 60 size pulse.... IMHO the perfect engine for this airframe. Light, plenty of power, and love the four stroke sound.
My 2 cents.... Steve |
