Small holes in monokote

I have taken off a few times with a nicely covered model, land, and there would be a small hole, or slit on the top of my wind, or stab. I do not understand why this happens? Can anyone relate to this?

What does your field look like? Is it tall grass perhaps that's slapping the stab? The wing would be a mystery

Nope. The wierd thing is, the holes have ahlways been on top. This has happened about three times. I have a tiger 60, when I landed it had a long slit in the wing. On my Razzle 3D, a smalle hole was in the monocote when I landed. I have no clue what it could be...?

Bug guts?

You live in a humid climate. Probably lots of bugs around. Probably a few big ones with hard shells.

Maybe your hitting bugs as you fly and a hard shelled beetle or other large bug could--maybe-- damage your covering.

Just a guess. I dunno.

Did you cover these? I can't help but wonder if you shrunk the covering too much trying to get wrinkles out.

Perhaps it's at it's "breaking' point, and flying stresses are ripping it.

I have noticed the same thing when landing in the tall grass. If the grass has weeds and is tall enough for the seed pods to be higher than the wind they hit the LE and fold back hard enough to poke holes in the top of the wing, these holes are usually just a little smaller than a pencil in dia.

..........where you live, I'm betting you have Bahia grass and that's the culprit. Bahia grows 2 to 4 inches a day, goes to seed, and has a stalk like a weed-whacker line. Check the bay areas of the wing/stab where the holes/slits are. Bet you find the top of the grass stalk or seeds. I'm having this problem in my area, especially after all the rain we've had lately.
It's so bad, I've posted (Clubhouse) a question about how to eradicate this. I have a couple of good leads, but this stuff is hard to kill. For now - just cut, and cut often. :(

How to repair this, with monokote or with clear tape, my wing holes are really small only a few millimeters.

You can repair it with tape or covering or trimsheets/vinyl. It's not that critical for small holes.

Yes. The tall grass has to be it. I do fly off my 12 acre pasture sometimes. I havent cut it for a good month now and I rarely fly in the pasture anyway, but the holes have only appeared after landing in the pasture when the grass is long. The holes are usaully very small. But I have had a large one on my tiger 60 that was about 5 inches in length, but all it was is a slit. Thanks for the information. Justin.
