Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
I cannot keep an exhaust extension on my Magnum 91 four stroke. So I was wanting to put a Pitts style muffler on to keep all of the exhaust off of the firewall on my RV 4. Is this possible? Where would I fine one is it is possible?
Thanks chopper |
RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
Sllimline make a couple styles, One for an inverted engine and one for an engine on it's side. The one on it's side is what I have on my Mag 91, but I havn't run it yet. I required a big hole in the cowl to fit as the end of the can is out there a bit, not as far as the rocker cover, but about to the base of the rocker cover. If you have the same Rv 4 that one of our guys have though, it should fit without much problem. If your engine now fits in the cowl, and you have clear space below the header pipe, it should fit fine. I'll send you a photo of mine, I don't have the cowl on right now. By the way, mine is on a Super Aeromaster that has a big radial cowl, but it is smaller than the RV 4 at the field.

Thanks. I have the GP RV 4 ARF. The Magnum 91FS fits nicely in the cowl. I look forward to seeing the picture.

RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
I found this one that looks closer to what you have on your Magnum. They don't list many engines so I'm not sure if this will work. Is this the right one for the Magnum 91FS

RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
I have a Slimline Pitts for my YS, too, and although I haven't ran it yet either, it is a very nice fit and seems to be well made. There is a video on Youtube with a YS specifically to display the amazing sound of the combination. It's incredible:D

RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
Just looked at that muffler again and it is the smoke version. If you don't want smoke, just plug the nipple on the end of the muffler.
Also, I said eariler that it fit the 120, that was wrong, 70 and 91, probably the older O.S. 90 also, And It fits the Thunder Tiger 91, I tried it. Don |

Here is the Slimline site's list of pitts mufflers for four stokes.
http://www.slimlineproducts.com/onli...ke_exhaust.htm Minflyer, are they still filling orders, or are they just gone??? Don |

RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
I just checked Omni's site and they have them in stock also, same price as Tower, Susprise!!.
I bought from Omni once and thought it was quite a coincidence that I had the exact customer number as towers. HUMMMMMM Anyway, they are still avaiable. as MinnFlyer said, getum while you can. Don PS, I guess this just shows you that these times are going to post some unwelcome suprises. The hobby will survive, but I expect more fallout over the next year. Lets face it, we are a ''Want" customer, not a "Need" one. I know that for a lot of us, it feels like "I need", but when it comes to food on the table and flying, I"m sure the food will win out. We've seen some of this in our club this year, Our membership is down by 30% from last year, some old timers, but most younger guys that are not as flush with cash as last year. The suppliers are seeing this also. 30% for our club probably is 30% for the industry. The stronger suppliers will survive, but those with razor thin margins, as I expect Slimline was, just arn't going to survive. I susprised that there isn't a manufacture from China waiting to pounce on the market void. Sorry, this is kind of hyjacking the thread. Don |

RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
Campgems,
Nice to read a well thought out and concise analagy filled with logic rather than emmotion. Give it some time, I'm willing to guess we will see some replacements in the future. The Chinese are very astute business people, they will see the hole and fill it. Good Luck, KW_Counter |
RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
I just ordered from Tower and I was going to get 2 but they showed only 1 in stock. They also showed delivery of more in late April. I got one at least:D

RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
Slim line isn't the only muffler manufacture that makes the pitts muffler for four strokes. I haven't bothered looking yet but I have gotten several mufflers and mounts from JTEC and been very happy with the service and the products they make and sell. There anti vibe motor mount for the YS is second to none!! Great prices too and all made in house!! I too expect to see a lot of old names going away very soon. These are becoming very hard times and not getting better real soon.

RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
Gene, do you have a photo of the Jtec muffler on an engine? I am having trouble getting an idea of what they look like from theri web site. The price is good, What about the sound, does it do a good job of quiting the exhaust, or is is like some of the gasser mufflers that sound more like an amplifier?
Don |
RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
Never mind Gene, I just got this note back from Jtec
"At this time we actually do not offer any four stroke mufflers. You may want to try bisson mufflers and see what they have to offer. thank you and sorry we could not help, Kevin Young" |
RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
Don, my four stroke pitts style mufflers are the Slim Line. I have been very happy with them and just haven't looked to see what else is out there. I do have and used the Top Flight In Cowl and like them too but they are harder to set up. Jtec is like slim line in the fact that there are no baffels so they are just cans or boxes with pipes. I have the Jtecs on some gassers and like the sound but noise for me is no problem. I use the Bisson pitts on my two stroke glows and they really are mufflers, very quiet. Seems to me that at one time Sullivan may have made mufflers?? I just can't remember? I have a bunch of the things under a bench and none of them have makers names on them. I want to try a Macs on the plane I have on the bench right now but I don't have an extra 50 dollar bill to toss at the plane. I have a stock SK muffler for this engine, the same thing as the big Tower muffler or I can get a small extension and use a Bisson Pitts?? I just hope someone picks up the Slimline mufflers so others can get a Pitts for there four strokes too. Maybe Jtec will pick them up??
|
RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
I've looked a Bison, and they don't have a 4 stroke, at least that I can find any way. Lots and lots of two stroke mufflers out there, but few, actually none that I've found for four strokes.
I sent an Email to Slimline asking about the avaiability of the muffler for the 91 O.S. four stroke and I ask them about the "rumor" that they were going out of business. No response so far. Chopper Man, you rat, You got the last one[>:] I checked Omni today and susprise, they don't have one either now. I had my order all filled out last night but needed another $12 to get the next level discount. By this morning it was to late. "He who heaiatates has lost" Anyway I'm glad is was "one of us" that got the last one.;) Towers site shows Late April for more stock, we'll see then what the real story is. I'm going up north this weekend and there are two or three hobby shops up there that I'll check out and see if they have one in stock. There was an article in one of my Mag's in the last couple months about making your own mufflers for the gassers. It isn't really a big deal, but on the four strokes, the plumbing from the head to the muffler is the big issue. O boy another project. |
RE: Pitts Style Muffler for a 4 Stroke
ORIGINAL: Campgems Here is the front view. Don I received my muffler today. I notice by your picture you have a small extension. Mine did not come with any type of extension and because of that it will not clear the engine mount. Is that an extension that I am seeing and did yours come with the muffler? Thanks chopper |
