Fuel pump / battery question
 

I just bought nice field kit at a swap meet this morning that included a ton of things for a nice price. The only things I need now are a battery and then the lines for the fuel.

Being new to this and i have searched for a diagram or explanation I have a couple of questions:

1. What battery to do you recommend to put in the field kit? Is the hangar 9 battery a good one?
2. What do I need in order to fuel my plane? fuel pump, tubing, etc.?
3. How do I hook up the fuel pump, etc. so that the fuel goes into the fuel tank of the plane?

I run one filter at the pickup and one between my fuel pump and the plane I have seen tiny plastic bits come from electric pumps on the downside of life .

I use the electric pump all of the time but I have a hand crank one in the bottom of my field box I have loaned tons and had to use a few times myself.

After using electric pumps for a while I found myself prefering the hand crank kind... but on occasion I will use my electric pumps for larger tanked planes.

Re: Batteries

I've used the Tower batteries and while they are not problematic, you may find yourself sometimes wishing you had purchased a higher capacity battery to be able to charge a plane, glow plug, etc. while at the field.

I've obtained higher capacity gell cells for good prices from sellers that supply batteries for UPS devices.

Normally they have 6v and 12v batteries available of almost any capacity and size.

Of course some guys also just use motorcycle batteries too.

opjose is right about a higher capacity battery the one I linked really does ok for me but there were times I really wanted more power then it gives, my OS LA 65 engine until it has been ran and is warm gives this battery a fit..

After you get a face full of fuel a few times from your electric fuel pump when your fuel line pops off and you can't get it turned off fast enough, you will go to a hand pump.
