starter cone
I have a used Hobbico Torqmaster 90 Deluxe 12 volt starter it needs the rubber cone insert the sleeve is about 1-3/8th “ in diameter and 6/8th ” deep. I am about to place a large order with Tower Hobbies and want to buy the rubber insert from them but they list them as SMALL, MEDIUM, SHALLOW and DEEP does anyone know the one that will work in my starter.
thank you Bill |

RE: starter cone
There are various cones available from different manufacturers.
You'll find that the cones also come in various sizes, cuts and depth for different spinners ( or in some cases lack of them ). Try to choose a cone that will offer good contact area with your spinner. Tower sells the hard rubber cones, which tend to scratch and score plastic spinners. When I first started everyone told me it was "normal" to score the spinner cones. Then I switched to a silicon cone, and I have yet to scratch or score a plastic, let alone a metal spinner.... so I learned my lesson. The material used, and keeping it clean is EXTREMELY important. The softer silicon cones wear faster, but I prefer to replace the cones every few years, instead of my spinners. |
RE: starter cone
You may also want to look into a tapered cone. The original one I had only made contact at one ring on the cone/spinner.

RE: starter cone
I tapered mine with some 400 gr. sandpaper and the starter running.
