fuel pump
Has anyone used one of these “Six Shooter Fuel Pump” or should I buy a crank pump I am thinking of buying this http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXB894&P=7 but never heard of these pumps I can buy the can with a different pump.

Go with the crank. These 6-shooters work well, but you have to hold down the can so it doesn't wobble around as you crank, and over time, the big piece of tubing inside can harden and needs replacing.

Yes, go with the crank. I bought the Six Shooter and did not like it.

its all about personal preference, some swear by em, I had one years ago, it worked but I still like the gear crank pumps better, there more precise. They both have about the same service life, crank pumps the gears wear out and seize, the six shooter the hose gets brittle and or pinches shut and both are almost cheaper to replace than rebuild.

I used {used} one for my gassers and they work very well. The big pump line tends to harden over time if you don't use them often. A replacement line is cheap and easy to install but sometimes hard to find at your LHS and ordering just a line is too much money with shipping. I use the little glow hand crank pump for gas now, it's rated for glow only but there seems to be nothing in there that gas effects. Mine keeps on working. I use a very old electric pump for my glows, I have a lot of glow engines and only a few gassers so it works out well for me. The 6 shooters do work very well though but the glow type seem to last forever.

I like how the six shooter thing has the whole fuel dispensing system wrapped up in a nice little package. I've been having a hard time finding the right setup for my hand crank and think I would prefer that six shooter setup. You could always buy the extra line at the same time to avoid future shipping costs (does it go bad in the package or only in the fuel?)

Joe, I opened up a package with the replacement line that was so old it had moss on the bag, it was just dandy. I installed it in mine and as always it worked great, until the next time I used it!! Seems I installed a glow line in my gas pump, turned it into rubber. My bad!! Read the lable on the package. They seem to last a long time if you use them often. Use them and then let them sit around for a long time and they tend to get soft or in my case hard. I'm not sure about how long they will last in glow but in gas I was replacing mine about once a year. I have never had one of the little glow pumps go out on me. You can get one from someone like Central that is rated for gas or glow, it's the IM Products pump, a bit more money but what the heck, it's a good little pump.

Two biggest problems I had with my Six Shooter was #1: having to hold the can when cranking, until I got a field box that held it fine, and #2: the velcro band holding the crank to the can kept sliding down during use, so I removed it from the can and screwed it to the field box.
Soon after I just got sick of the way it handled so I replaced it with [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFAW2&P=ML]tower hobbies[/link] with this [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRS88&P=0]fuel can fitting [/link] . But as redfox435cat stated, it's all about personal preference. |

THEY SUCK! Best thing I ever did was go get a H9 crank pump.

Problem you may have is you are buying your fuel by the quart (I know this from another thread you wrote) so you may have to buy a gallon size fuel can to use the fuel can fitting. I do not know if the fittings will properly install onto a quart bottle.
Even if you can use the fittings on a quart bottle how are you going to keep the bottle from falling over in your field box? The fuel compartments are made to hold gallon jugs. |

i have this six shooter and its working very well for the second year now.
whats good about it is that you can mount it to the can this one or another, hand crank you need to hold in your hand. before this i had the thunder tiger which was identical to tower's at the time hand crank it was leaking until it just stopped working, opened it, nothing wrong closed it was working for two days and quit again then i said enough and got the six shooter. |

Tower only sells quarts and 4 gallon 4 is to much and no LHS near me.

If you have your mind set on the Six Shooter I would say go for it. Although I do not like it, you may. Only thing I would suggest is to remove the velcro from around the can and screw the crank to your field box.

For my first season I will buy the six shooter setup for easy use and low cost. and will use titebond with screws for my flight box. thank's everyone

im using this fuel fitting http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXRS88&P=ML on a metal can i found in the garbage at the field, it can sit on a quart but it means 3-4 flights from one quart.... i would get that dave brown system. |
