Elmer's & canopies

I prefer to not have to buy canopy glue just for one application. Can Elmer's Glue-All be used for canopies?

Nope

If you really don't want to buy the glue, you can screw the canopy in place and cover the screws with tape

2nd the nope. Buy the canopy glue and it will last you forever. Probably no more cost than the Elmers.

I'll bet you will find yourself using it more than you think.

Also, if you store the canopy glue somewhere that it wont be subject to freezing the shelf life is measured in years. Good stuff.

On a side note...on some aircraft (like a 4*) I usually figure out a clean way to attach my canopies without glue for serviceablity reasons. Say you just want to get the canopy on so you can fly ASAP but would like to be able to easily add cockpit detail later.

Cheers.

shd,

unless its a scale project just use some servo screws that all i ave do and works very well, have never had 1 come loose yet.

just make sure once you make the hole that you run the screws in and back out then use some CA to harden the holes and threads wait for it to dry then attach the canopy.

hope this helps.

As others have said, if you don't want to use canopy glue then use screws to attach the canopy wiht. However, buying a bottle of Formula 560 is only $3.69 from Tower Hobbies, [link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCX70&P=ML[/link] . A bottle of this will last you for YEARS, so it's not a "one time application". I've been working off of the same two bottles of this canopy adhesive for over 10 years now. If you are going to attach a canopy this is probably one of the better ways to go because the adhesive remains a bit rubbery. This helps absorb vibrations from the airframe which keeps your canopy from cracking.

shd,
i didnt want to buy the canopy glue either and at the end i did, and now i'll tell you that its next to impossible to glue plastics with conventional glues....
its well worth it besides how many things you bought in this hobby that just takes space? the canopy glue is not one of them.
