old engine
Im taking apart an old asp .40 nitro engine. this is my first time taking apart and putting back together an engine. what is a good way to clean off all of the old fuel and crude. right now im soaking it in a bucket of water and dish soap. then i plan on drying it out and using marvel mystery air tool oil. can i use rubbing alcohol to get rid of the crud? any info would be appriciated.

RE: old engine
take it out of the water as soon as possible, put it in fuel, this will remove or at least loosen anything not rust.

RE: old engine
I had an old OS 61 SF that I bought at an estate sale. It was pretty gummed up and I wasn't sure if it would run. Well, I put it in a bucket, poured some old fuel over it, covered it, and let it set for about a week. I took it out, drained it real well, put it on a starting block, fueled up a tank, and started it. It ran just fine.
Shows that there is life in those old engines. CGr. |
RE: old engine
Dawn Power Dissolver. And I suggest a complete disassembly just to be certain. It isn't that hard.
