I would send it back immediately.

I concur. Once you start dissassembly, the fact that it arrived damaged/scored becomes less clear.

Maybe it's just me...but those scratches in the piston don't look all that bad...

I've got an RJL K.61 with a piston that looks very much like the O.P.'s ST and it runs quite well...they were caused by a little edge/burr on the lower lip of the E. port in the sleeve. (The RJL has a ringed piston/steel sleeve same as the ST .90 )

I knocked the burrs off w/ a Dremel polishing point...the one that looks/feels like a gray rubber (pen )eraser.

And FWIW I doubt that it will require any new parts, but I wouldn't bet money on that...guess we all will see...one way or another, huh!?

Eventually every noob will have to tear down an engine.

hi if this is a new engine-do send it back and tell tower -the engine appears to have been run by someone before-when and if surfaces do not get polished on the first break in runs and in fact are rough as yours are -this engine will never be right but will be short lived as it will self distruct itself over time( the rough metal ripping at rough metal )-send it back the way you got it- do not take it apart- and have tower pay shipping both ways for there error ! you will never get an excellent piston to liner seat with what i am looking at in the pictures-and therefore maximum power this engine should produce- i have been using -handling and rebuilding glo engines for 24 years-tower owes you to make good on this engine-it most probable they should have never sent you this engine in the first place and is some kind of error on there partTONY

It's never been ran. And it's not Towers fault, It's mine! I did the research here and knew well in advance that Supertigres quality was a hit or miss deal since they moved operations to China. I just got a bad one!

i would send it back also .

it takes a long time to break one one in , over a gallon for the 90 ringed , might as well start with one that doesn't look like it ate a titanium sandwich before it left the factory .

i have one of the new Chinese 90 ringed engines , it's got TONS of power , it's worth starting with a good one .

regards

Dan

not true. its their fault, if they built the engine and they screwed it up how could it be your fault?
if you dont want to send the engine back call up tower and ask for a new piston/ring/sleeve andexplain the problem. they may send the parts may not
if they ask for it back they will pay for shipping both ways.
tower is a good company and will take care of you for the screw up.

I have to agree with the send it back crowd. It is not your fault unless you made the engine. It is not Towers fault, as they just sell it. However how is Tower to know that they have sold a poor product or how can they tell the manufacture the product has problems if we the end user don't let them know. Send it back and do all of us a favor.

call them get a return number they will replace it for you. i agree those look like scratched from either milling or liner problems.

RE: New Supertigre G90 with scratches on the piston.

Most new engines have scuff marks on the piston but those are the worst grooves Ihave seen in a new engine. The photo isn't bad at all!! Iwould have that back in the mail as soon as I could do it. Why fool around with something that is new and looking like that right out of the box.
For a hundred dollar bill Iwould be looking at the SK engines sold through Kangke-Super Kraft, a lot more bang for your bucks!
