Removal of clips from connectors

I need to feed wires from two battery packs through a small hole in a case for the packs. Is there any way to remove the clips from the connectors so they'll fit through the holes without cutting them and or soldering?

It's been a while since I've messed with those clips. I think they are tamiya style. You should be able to pull the wires out by using a small screwdriver to release them. I have a set at home I'll look at if someone else doesn't figure it out by the time I can get to them.

I've had success in removing these pins from the body of the connector by selecting a piece of brass tubing that just fits over the body of the connector pin. Push it down over the connector and it will depress the locking tab so you can pull the wire out of the rear end of the connector shell. You can buy an extractor for each type of connector but I'd have to search for a source. Most probably the manufacturer of the connector can tell you where to get one or may even give you one if you ask.

No matter how you manage to do it, do the wires one at a time and insulate them once it is out so it does not touch the other bare connector.</p> |

Why bother?
That is more complicated that it needs to be. Look at that picture you posted from my battery pack. There was already a hole in the back for something, at the junction I believe... But just use a small dremel sanding drum at the edge of the back, to create two semi-circles. Do it so that when you put the bottom cover on, you end up with a whole circle. Then just feed the wire through the circle BEFORE you put the bottom on. Simple, and there is NO cutting of the Tamiya connectors involved. |
