What's he going to do next

Igot a few PMs after I had finished my Daddy Rabbit asking what I was going to do next??
Beats me??? Moneys too short to be starting anything I really want to build but Iwas kicking around the shop looking, you know, that sort of lost type of looking. Then I looked up instead of shuffling my feet around the balsa dust.
There on the wall was a very old Bipe I used to fly in IMAA events, had an OS 1.20 pumper in it and it was really under powered so I had pulled the radio gear and engine a couple of years ago. Ialso sent a set of plans for this plane to my building buddy in NY and he was getting close to finishing his so it got me to thinking. Itold him to install at least a 40cc gasser in his.
What the heck, practice what I preach!! Ipulled it down and hosed it off then started measuring, Ijust happened to have an almost new Brison 2.4 40cc gasser under the bench. Not a great fit but it did fit!! Just took a little cowl cutting, OK, more like a lot of cutting but I got it to work.
Ialso found a lot of room for improvement in the way Ihad the servos and controls set up so I did all of that over too. Ibuilt this one a long time ago and have learned a lot sense then.
The plane is a 68 inch Boeing F4B-2 that was designed by John Tanzer. It used to fly pretty good, now I have to get a good maiden day to see how well it will fly with some power under the hood!!
What now??? I'm out of almost everything in the way of gear.
Will work for old servos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif

Just stop that!!! Ihave been trying to find someone with a smoke system or twothat aren't being used, no such luck.
Ihave this one and my Extra that would really look good with smoke. This one would really be a fun smoker!!! Plus that great big fuse has plenty of room for the pump and tank!!

Gene, you don't need to spend a bundle on a smoke system.

This is the pump I use:

It'll set you back a whopping 13 bucks.

This article will show how I have mine set up:

And here it is working on my old Skybolt with a YS 91AC:

cool plane, look like the one they use in air shows...

wouldn't a smoke system add weight to the plane and affect its flight?

Mike, I just happen to have one sitting in my junk box, I just forgot all about it. Come to think about it I have a set of spring airs in there too!!!
Maybe I can build a plane around the pump and landing gear??? If this weather doesn't break soon I may just have do do something like that.

Mike put me on to the windshield washer pump from JC Whitneys. What's really funny is that the windshield washer pump runs about $14. The TME smoke pump runs $33 from Tower Hobbies. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XHS73&P=ML

Isn't it amazing just how much the two pumps resemble each other???

The Boeing was the plane that the P-40 replaced just before Pearl Harbor, about a year before, it was one of our front line fighters up until then.
Weight, yes it would add some weight but weight is nothing {within reason} to worry about. People are buying into this ARF thinking. They are selling very cheap light weight products and telling you it's how it should be, it's really just how it is. If you don't use any wood in a product it will come out light so they have to say something to sell people the idea.
In this case I removed a 4 stroke glow engine, added a 40cc gas engine and then removed three {3} pounds of lead out of the cowl to get the correct CG. I know {3} THREE POUNDS of lead!!! How can this be???
Simple, airplanes that are a scale of something can and will have some little problems. In this case the full scale plane had a big heavy round multi cylinder engine up front so it is short nose coupled to compensate for the weight of the round engine. In a model you have to add weight to compensate for that big round engine, lead is the normal way to do this.
Right now with the changes I made a smoke pump, tank and extra battery would be more of a help then a problem. By removing some of that lead it is slightly tail heavy now, the extra gear would go up front and put the CG right back to neutral.
In my case the tail heavy CG will add to my fun and if it gets away from me then just look at all the extra gear I would have for another plane!!!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

I just put a smoke sytem in a 27% Extra. Iused the Sullivan pump. It works great and is gorgeous to watch in the air. That Super Dri smoke oil works excellent but it's pretty expensive, especially if ou buy it in 1 gallon containers. Messy stuff too. I need to work on some sort of home brew. Iknow a guy who knows a guy with a full scale bipe who supposedly has several drums of smoke oil though and hopefully he'll let me buy a few gallons, we'll see.

Chuck, that would be cool, I didn't know that the full scale smoke was the same as used in RC planes.
Iknow a few guys that brew there own. Most of the guys I know using smoke buy it because they say it just makes better smoke then there home brew??
Ionce set it up on a four stroke engine but wasn't overly impressed with the smoke I was getting so I gave up on it.
Ithink my big Extra and this Bipe will be a hoot to smoke. My wife has mentioned just sticking a match to the back end and I would have all the smoke I could handle!!

Convert it to electric and short a couple wire together. It will make great smoke then.
