CG Question

Hi,

I have a question about making sure the CG/Balance in a plane is correct. Should you set the CG with a full or empty tank ? My inclination is to set it with the tank empty so that when it is full it flies a little nose heavy rather than having it drag it s tail when the fuel gets low ?

Any comments ?

The only difference is if the fuel tank is behind the cg, like on the Northstar, then you want to balance it with the tank full.

Models are balanced with an empty tank.

Eh, not quite.

It depends upon the design of a plane.

A better generalization is that MOST tractor type planes are set up with no fuel in the tank.

Most pushers, and many some deltas require measuring the C.G. with fuel in the tank.
