Replacement glow plug washer???
Ive lost my glow plug gasket/washer. My LHS is closed for a few days, yet want to fly cause im on vaca. Is there something Ican use to replace the washer? Would home depot carry brass washers to fit?

RE: Replacement glow plug washer???
every glow plug i've bought has come with washers. but, if you're on your last glow plug, i'd just take it (the plug) to the hardware store and see which ones fit.

RE: Replacement glow plug washer???
i wouldnt worry about it, fly the plane. just make sure that the glow plug isnt touching the cylinder head (aka turn the engine by hand, if you cant turn it 360 degrees then the cylinder head it touching the glow plug)

RE: Replacement glow plug washer???
Do you have any old washers off of old glow plugs?? I know that there are probably 10-15 of them floating around in my flight box as I just haven't ever cleaned them out. Call a flying buddy and ask for one of their old ones. That would be a lot easier than trying to match one up at a hardware store.

I'm a dedicated aculimator of stuff that may come in hand some day, and a charter member of Pack Rats Anomusious, or how ever you spell it. My flight box has more than one washer. little screws and steel washers, you name it . When I pull my starter out, I have to pick the fruit hanging on it before I can use it.. Man those magnets are powerful. Don |
RE: Replacement glow plug washer???
An old speed guy once told me to use the same washer plug after plug. It tends to take a set to the shape of the head. The other thing he insisted upon was using a die to chase the threads of the plug before using it. It takes a 1/4-32 die to run the threads of the glow plug. This cleans up the burrs that can be left on glow plugs, and prevents damage to engine heads.

I'll see your washers (which is a surprise they are stocked), and raise you the die.

I always keep a few old used ones around just for situations like this.
