SULLIVAN TAILWHEEL BRACKET DIFFERENCE?
 

I currently have a Sullivan tailwheel (40-60 5-12lbs) on my Showtime 50. I guess with time the music wire on the gear has started to lose its strength. Im wondering if I would be better off with the next size up which is the Sullivan 60 - 1/4 10-22lbs tailwheel assembly.

Does anyone know if the bracket itself is the same size on both sizes....or is it just the wire thats thicker? Anyone see an issue with using the 60 - 1/4 scale size over the 40-60 size.

Pretty sure that it is just the wire is thicker with the larger size ones.

i have has that problem with two different sullivans.... The brass spring retainer came loose one one, and the spring broke on another.... Sullivan makes great products, i just wont buy their tail brackets anymore

I like them...but I guess like everything else with RC planes....nothing lasts forever. 2 Seasons - running through grass and pavement... I guess it lasted long enough.

I was flying my Excelleron 90 one day and just prior to making a left turn (in the pattern), I heard a WHACK but saw nothing notable. No one was flying around me so I ignored it.

I did notice a seagul flying about 50 or so feet away and didn't pay any attention to it.. I was flying my Excelleron...

I landed and walked up to the plane and noticed that the tail wheel assembly (a Sullivan by the way) was missing and there was a while feather stuck in the balsa next to the wheel pad location.

I hit that stupid seagul.. or it hit me.. and knocked the tail wheel off. Oddly enough, when it happened, the WHACK noise I heard was obviously delayed due to distance, and I didn't even see that seagul near the plane, but it was obvious that I hit the thing.

Aaaanyway.. a little Sullivan tail wheel story there.

The sullivan tail wheels wear out after a bit. Theplastic, where thepivot seems to wear and the wheel starts to wobble side to side. I've checked the different sizesand the wire diameter is the only difference. I always use the small diameter springas it is stiffer than the larger one. Speaking of them, I need to replace them on two of my planes. They get a bit hard to stear when they are flopping side to side.
