need help with elevators
 

I have a 50cc Yak that the servos go into the elevators at the base of them. I put them in but now they move in different directions. I tried spinning one of the servos around and got the same result. I guess this is something that is going to need to be fixed through my transmitter. I have a Futaba T6EXP. Can anyone tell If this transmitter will do what I need, and how to do it. I have the servos on a Y connection. Please help I have it all set up but this and I'm going crazy tring to finish it and fly it. Thanks James

If you have the servos set onto a single channel on the reciever and are using a Y connector...you actually need a reversing Y connector. In my esperience....I would say split them onto different channels and use a Futaba Servo Synchronizer/ JR matchbox in place of the Y connector. You will be able to adjust the servos individually much easier once youve got them mechanically matched as best you can. Just my opinion.

If your radio is unable to do the job then you need a duel servo reverser.

Back to the servo reverser. I finally found one that is suppose to work really well.

RCU Member elvir uses it in his gp cap 232 27% and it is perfect so he says.

RCU Member cmoulder says..... This is one of the best little gizmos ever. I have them on 4 planes, including a H9 27% Extra and now the RC Guys Super Decathlon. Makes life a lot easier.

Actually I bought the S10 servo reverser from tower and everyone has told me the S-10's from tower are junk! So I never used mine. I wouldn't be afraid to use the top one I mentioned if I needed one now.

the servos lay down on their side and slide into the end of the elevator, the end that mounts against the fuse. the only way to do it like your saying is to cut a hole in the top of one of the elevators and put the control arm up there.

Can you not just take the servo arm off and rotate it 180 degrees and reinstall? That would change the direction of that servo and match the surfaces together. This is how a QQ yak is set up at our field I'm pretty sure.

on this one when you pull the elevators off the fuse, if you stood the elevator on its end and looked down into the end that meets the fuse you see a square cut out that you slide your servo into. and when you lay the elevator back down like you were going to mount it back on the plane, now the servo is laying on its side with the servo arm poking out of a hole cut out on the bottom of the wing. to turn the arm 180 it would now be poking out of the top of the elevator.

I think you have these options:

1- Reversing Y-harness. This will work but you'd better have the linkages close to the same since you won't be able to adjust end points or trim on the servos individually. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXAFN2&P=ML
2- Match box. this is similar to a reversing Y but has the abiliity to control centering and end points. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=JRPA900
3- Use separate channels for each servo and mix in the radio. One servo will go into the regular elevator spot on the Rx and the second will go into an unused channel. You use a programable mix in the radio make the servos move simultaneously. This way you can reverse either servo as needed, control end points, trim, etc. individually.

Your radio will not mix these like you need to do. The matchbox or something close is your best choice. The reverse Y will also work. I just have not had good luck with them so I am hesitant to reccomend one. I have had three of them and two of them would not hold the trim setting in the pot.

I don't believe the 7CAF supports dual elevators but I could be wrong. The 7C on 2.4 GHz does though.

I'm only going by what an 18 year old kid in our club told me that competed among the top 25 in the world of indoor flying at toledo last year. Maybe HE is wrong! :)

With a plane of that size and cost a reversing Y isn't the best way to go. Like Dave, I have had and seen to many of them fail, they just aren't a good idea. With the money you already have invested in your plane you may want to give the match box a thought or two. More money but I haven't seen or had one ever fail and like Chuck mentioned, you can center your servos dead on so they aren't fighting each other. I use the JR match box and haven't used the Futaba yet so I can't say anything about them but the match box system is the safe way to go.

I've never had an EMS reversing Y fail but not having the adjustability is a pain. The linkage geometry had better be exact or the elevator halves will move differently.

I ran a reversible y harnes on my decathlon, it works fine. It even held up to two crashes!:D

If you're using Futaba servos, just buy one HiTec servo for the other side - they run reverse to Futaba

What servos are you using?

I had a similar issue with my ailerons - my radio supports dual elevators and has individual endpoints, but not for the ailerons[:@] Anyway I got a Hitec servo programmer for $26 to program my servos and it worked like a charm.

If both elevator halves do not work perfectly together (same centers, endpoints, and speed) your plane will corkscrew and twist through loops and pulls/pushes.

As for mis-matched servos (Hitec and Futaba) - are they more susceptible to unequal travel? That was what I thought (no two servos are the same, etc.)

According to the specs, the 7C 2.4 ghz does support dual elevator.... But there's a difference between support -and- actually work. There is a lag between the two servos since they are seperate channels. Can anybody shed light on this? I understand why, but wondering if anyone has been able to make it work the way it should.

reverse the servo arm...just like you do on ailerons......except to get the control surface to move opposite you want them to move together.....ie servo arm with the pushrod next to the fuselage on one side, and the pushrod away from the fuselage on the other side......
You can use a servo reverser if you wish...but if it fails I doubt you'd save your plane
