ORIGINAL: springhillflyer hey guys, i'm flying a pulse xt 60 size plane with a saito 100 4 stroke and i'm wondering what size prop you would recommend. Several prop recommendations can be given by a lot of us but different props will give you different performance parameters. If you are looking for quick acceleration but not concerned about high top end speed, then lower the pitch increase the diameter. A lower pitch will also give you a stronger vertical performance. But, you have to watch your RPM with a four stroke. Let us know what you are dissatisfied with and maybe we can help you decide. But, one thing I would recommend is to buy a prop in several sizes and try them out. More than likely you will find something that will work for you and what you want out of this airframe/engine combination. Then you will have spare props, either for this plane if you want to change something later on, or for another plane that you can match up a prop for. CGr. |
RE: prop recommendation
thanks CGRetired....i am using a 14x8 prop now and i like it to just fly around with no aerobatics and as soon as i try aerobatics and anything vertical it seems to fall out of the sky....so i'm looking for somehting that would be ok for top end speed and ok for some aerobatics.

RE: prop recommendation
What kind of RPM are you getting with the 14x8?
|
RE: prop recommendation
actually i checked the rpm a month ago but for the life of me i cna't recall what it actually was.

RE: prop recommendation
Have you tried a bigger 4stroke?

RE: prop recommendation
If this is a new engine, or low time engine , try running a 14x6 APC and do not let it over rev the engine. try to keep the rpm,s around 9700 to 9800 rpm,s . After a few gallons of fuel thru it, switch back to the 14x8 APC. Retune the top end , you,ll find the pull has improved.
The Pulse .60 and a Saito 1.00is a sweet combo and a 14x6 should be a perfect starting point. |
RE: prop recommendation
I ran a 14X8 APC on my Saito 100 on a Showtime, never a complaint. I broke the prop one day when I hit a rut and nosed over. I had a 14X8 Graupner with me so I threw it on and was amazed at how much better pull I got, especially on verticle climbs.
