Problems With My New Trainer Plane
Ok Guys I took up my tower hobbies series 40 up and the plane keeps getting hits real bad and the engine dies after about 3-5 min into the flight I have a OS La 46 engine in it So since I am new I fig I would just Change the Engine b/c it has a real bad rattle maybe the bushings are going out I dont know and Change the Reciever Since it is Getting Hits all the time! So What reciever and what engine would work good in it. I have a Futaba 4 channel Skysport remote Any Suggestions? What I should do!

RE: Problems With My New Trainer Plane
If you are indeed gettings "hits" then changing the receiver isn't going to do anything as the new receiver will get hit as well since it's on the same channel.
I also doubt that the engine needs replaced as well. More likely it just needs to be tuned properly, or there is another issue causing your problems. If the engine is dying on you in flight as you stated I would take a look at the fuel system to ensure that you don't have any issues with it. Ken |
RE: Problems With My New Trainer Plane
check your antenna wire, is it coiled?, cut? on your engine do you have the thrust washer on it between the case and drive hub? I'll second RCKen on the fuel system, check for leaks, pin holes in the fuel lines, and check the nipples on the needle valve. I just replace a needle valve assembly on one of my LA's it had a small crack and was sucking air.

see if you hear the clunk when you shake the airplane.
i had dead sticks after few minutes of flight because the intake line in the tank the one with the clunk was bent inside against the tank wall, some shakes and it was released and the dead sticks stopped. the motor maybe need adjustment to stop shaking. Alex |
RE: Problems With My New Trainer Plane
What RCKen said. Listen to what he wrote.
Plus, is there anything in that model involved in a prior crash? If so, change it out. Your hits are probably a faulty receiver you have in that airplane. Less likely is a bad off/on switch. Even less likely is a true hit. If it were me I'd send the receiver to get checked and meanwhile replace it with a Hitec Dual Conversion receiver. You can't trust an off/on switch so change it out. |
RE: Problems With My New Trainer Plane
pvtqueball, what do you mean by "hits"?
has the airplane hit the ground several times? do you get radio brown out and it hit back to normal all of a sudden? is the radio brown out hitting on the airplane? one more thing to check with the 46 LA is if the engine's back plate is secured, my wasnt, added blue thread lock to the screws and it stopped. just trying to help. RE: Problems With My New Trainer Plane
you could even be running too lean causing the engine to die......where do you fly? are other flyers being hit? reroute some of your servo leads keeping them away from your antenna as much as possible......

A bad switch or connection in the wiring is not all that uncommon but is tricky to trace down. It will act like your taking an interference hit.
