Someone at the field where I fly gave me a HOBBICO StarFire 40(free), a low wing plane that he had and was completly destroyed!. The wings had no monokote at all and one half of the wing was gone the other half was broken on the edge and no ailerons of course. The elevator is divided into two parts and one part was gone also. It had no servos, receiver, battery or engine mount.
I´ve only been flying for 2 months and I rebuild the plane in a week and it´s ready to fly today!.
I know this is not the most beautiful plane nor the most acrobatic or fast or whatever, but the fact that I build it(build part of it) just gives me this incredible joy...
Maybe I need to buy a kit and build a plane from scratch, imagine how will I feel then!.

Seriously though, its a god feeling when something that you thought would be impossible finally comes together and you can admire your end result no matter how bad it may look.

You might try building a good kit next. After the experience of putting it together and getting it flying well, scratch building from plans will be easier, since you will have some knowledge of how things are supposed to go together on a plane. I'm just finishing up my first scratch built which has taken me 6 months to complete. Knowing that I put it together myself, and also cut out and hand built each part gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

Having rebuilt one makes a person a lot less worried on the flight line. Yon know that most "incidents" (never pilot error) are rebuildable. So its not like you go out to fly, have a "bump" and have lost all your investment.
