Hey guys,

So Ive been on the alpha 40 all summer, Buddy boxed on a friends tiger 2 and astro hog. Ive been soloed for a bit over a month. I had one crash and rebuild that had me rebuilding the fire wall, the nose and some wing damage, I also took the time to remove the dehedrial from the wing so i now have a flat wing. Yesterday was the first time flying it after the rebuild and damn almost feels as nimble as the tiger 2. But thats neither here nor there, I write this post like i stated about my first kit. I mentioned the rebuild because it gave me much alot of insight into the construction of these planes. I really learned alot from that rebuild and my instructor for flying also instructed me on the rebuild.

I plan buying the gp escapade and moving the 46ax from my alpha to the escapade. I have a JR 632 radio i bought used with 2 recievers so i have a reciever for the escapade then ill probably get a ST or TT engine for the alpha.

But what im building up to is I really want to get a kit for over the winter. I have access to all the tools I need to build as there is a aero modelers club at RIT (my college) which i plan on joining once the school year starts back up. But i really want a 60 size kit. It didnt seem like there were many good first time kit builder choices in the 60 size on tower. though im pretty sure I could handel a some what complicated kit. I do plenty of tinkering, as im a mech eng student and have been into car restoration for a few years. So im pretty decent with tools and such. So what kits would you recommend for my situation. I put a post up a week or so ago and got lots of 40 size recs but im pretty sure i definatly want at least a 60 size.

And as much as i loved the time i buddy boxed on bingofield's tiger I kinda wanna try something new.

GP Super Sportster 60

I was looking at that, is the supersportster a decent build i can never tell they always say good second or third kit.

I don't know, it's going to be my winter kit. Ihave the plans for a Super Sportster 120, I'm going to build it after the 60

Four Star 60! :D

What an incredible plane.

Sig Kavalier for a great first kit and second plane, Sig Kougar is a good kit also, and will teach you how to build with a foam core wing, but is better suited as a third plane. Both will teach you how to build since they don't just drop together like a laser cut kit, and both will fly great with the OS .46 AX.

I built a super sporster 40 last winter as my second kit after my PT-40 very nice second plane to build, see my build thread, modified it by using 2 aileron servos and tricycle landing gear.

I have had fewer unpleasant surprises with SIG kits....they do a nice job

what's your fancy?

if you think you might have any qualms about building a kit for the first time, I would recommend the Sig 4*. They are excellent kits and will teach you good fundamentals, plus they fly great. I don't know many people who have built one and don't still fly it from time to time.

I also built a GP Super Sportster (same thread as wzak http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8766402/tm.htm ) and I agree that the Super Sportser would be a great build, but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT FOR A FIRST KIT BUILD!!!

If you're looking for a challenging kit and you're into bipes the GP Super Skybolt's great... took me 3-4 months to complete. I'd previously only built the GP PT40 kit, and done a few crash rebuilds, and didn't find anything too challenging in the Skybolt as the instructions are well written with good illustrations. From looking at wzak29's build thread on the GP Super Sportster it seems that they've used very similar designs in both the Sportser and Skybolt, with the addition of an upper wing.

I am building my first kit right now. Its a .90-1.20 size Dynaflite S.E.5a. I am about half complete and have had no issues to date. Its pretty straight forward, not too many curve balls. There is an extensive thread on the build as well. Just my 2 cents.
