No Fly Zone!
Just informed that our field is in a NO FLY ZONE from 9:00pm tonight to 5:00pm tomorrow. Due to the Kennedy services.

RE: No Fly Zone!
Isn't that something!! We were grounded for a few days when the new president decided to come to Vegas. One thing I noticed right away was how much quieter it was around here with the airports closed down too. I did get to see air force one take off though. Big whoop!!

Popriv, how far away is your field from the actual area where the Ted Kennedy stuff is going on? |
RE: No Fly Zone!
Haven't seen Airforce One but when I lived in Houston many-many moons ago I did see the 747 circling Ellington AFB with the Enterprise shuttle on it's back. It made many laps before it finally landed for fuel. Impressive sight. It went on to Fla the next day I believe.

RE: No Fly Zone!
I got an email from our club secretary this morning telling me about this. I had my daughter all excited about going flying this afternoon, but since our field is within 30 miles of Boston, we can't fly.

RE: No Fly Zone!
I'm glad our field owner bought property where he did. He's far enough from Dallas that we are not affected when politicians come to town.
I probably wouldn't recognize Air Force One if it flew by right now. It just looks like another airliner unless you're close enough to read the insignia. If a 747 came by, carrying a space shuttle, I definitely would take notice. |
RE: No Fly Zone!
Yeah, and they were flying the shuttle carrier down around 1000 ft AGL. Easy to get a good look and pics for those with cameras. NASA is/was based at Ellington AFB and in the local area of Clear Lake City,TX and they did a lot of their flight training out of there. Ellington Field is a private/commercial airport now.

RE: No Fly Zone!
Sheez...
We get Notar No Fly notifications around here ALL the time, given that we are outside of D.C. If you get one on occasion, count your blessings! |
RE: No Fly Zone!
Notar = No tail rotor
|
RE: No Fly Zone!
Notar = Notice To Airmen.
|
RE: No Fly Zone!
Actually NOTAR is no tail rotor. NOTAM is notice to airmen.
|
RE: No Fly Zone!
NoTar= dirt runway
|
RE: No Fly Zone!
pdm52956 is correct. Having been one (airman) since the early 70's, I've read a bunch of them.
