Help IDing a plane
 

I have no idea what kind of plane this is. I got it for free from someone who's father had left for Florida and got out of the hobby. The cowl is missing and it has a odd set up for the elevator. I included some pictures maybe someone has seen a plane like it before. If you need pictures of something I missed just let me know and ill try and get the up a soon a possible. I'm trying to set it up as a plane for my wife but i have no idea where to measure the CG from, any ideas

Looks like a Sig kit...maybe a Seniorita?

Proptop is correct it is a Sig product. If the wingspan is 57 inchs it is the Kadet Mark 11, if the wingspan is 48 inchs it is the Kadet Junior. Both of these Kits (real kits not arfs) came with an attractive little full fiberglas cowl and thats why your Kadet does not have the build in cheek cowls like most of the other Kadets versions.

Balance your airplane as all the Kadets at the forward edge of the spar, not the rear edge. It is balanced at that point when it will sit level with no fuel and not an indeterminate amount of nose down for mother and country.

Looks like a Kadet MKII to me. I used to have a pumpkin orange one ;)

The kit is still available from Sig (Tower Hobbies, for some reason, is dropping Sig products). The cowl is available also, just go the first link for the Kadet Mk II and scroll down through the parts listing.

For power, an OS .46 AX is way too much. It was designed for power along the line of the OS .40 LA. I've built and flown them on OS .35 and .40 FP's which are the predecessor to the LA series. I'd recommend the [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGGV7&P=SM]OS .46 LA[/link] for power since the .40 is no longer available. Anything more is too much power (it'll fly on an OS .25 FX with no problem).

PS: center of gravity is right on the main wing spar on that plane (same as most high wing trainers)

I'm sorry I know with is considerd hijacking, but O.S. no longer makes the 40 LA anymore:( is this true? Did I understand you correctly?

That's correct OS no longer makes the 40LA.

OS dropped the .40 LA at least a year ago.

As far as I know, the .40 LA and .46 LA share the same casting and should interchange. From what I've heard, the .46 is supposed to be a better engine, but I haven't had any issues from my .40 LA's.
