Hobbico Accu-Cycle Elite question
 

Hello I am wanting to get the Hobbico Accu-Cycle Elite so that I can prolong the life of my TX and RX batteries. I am just wandering if this is a good purchase? I do fly alot and want to get the most of my equipment but also do not want to waste money. I am also wandering if this will also work as a quick field charger like the Hobbico Quick Field DC Charger and do all of its features? Any feedback would be great. Thanks

I've used one to cycle batteries for 6 years or so and find it easy to use. I don't use it for anything but cycling as I have field charger that I rarely use, as a matter of fact more members of my club have used the field charger than I ever have. One of ours instructors showed up for a recent air show with all dead batteries. Another members and my field charger got him back in business.

I'm very happy with mine. While I have a couple other chargers, I always tend to gravitate to the Accucycle Elite. I use it at home for a good portion of my charging and discharging and I've used it at the field for charging lipos. Works well for everything.

The AccuCycle is a good charger.. It is best suited for RX/TX batts, but will do 2000mAh ish Nicads/NiMH/Lipos reasonably well.. My only complaint about the AccuCycle (Had mine for 3 years now) is that it will not balance charge a lipo battery. So if you get anything that has lipos, you may wind up going down another path for a balance charger.. I'd take a look for something that will do 2 batteries at once, and will balance a lipo.. Not sure if there is such a beast.. I have another charger (can't remember the name of it) that does all of that, but doesn't have a cycle feature or discharge.. Works great for charging any battery you could need for RC..

Ok, just found the newer model of my charger.. The newer one has a discharge feature which I REALLY wish I had.. This charger is the bees knees.. I'd buy this over the Accu Cycle.. a few $$ more, but it will charge EVERYTHING.. Nimh, Nicad, Lipo, A123, Lead Acid.. Very nice unit..

A great charger. I cycle/charge at home using the AC adapter; charge on my way to the field off of my field box battery....and able to charge off of the car battery once at the field for the day. Its very versatile for NiCd/Nimh batteries. Easy to use. I feel mine was worth every penny. Ive had it two years now.


FYI - sometimes you are able to find it on tower hobbies under "scratch n Dent" at a savings simply because its missing the manual, which can be printed from their website anyway. I got mine 30% off this way.

i love mine...i use for my rx, tx, li-ions and my lipo packs with equinox balancers...its really helpful that you can charge 2 things at the same time.

I have a programming question on this unit. The instructions says that you can not use the memory for both sides. This makes no sense to me...Are they saying you can call up a memory to start side 1 but then have to manually enter all the details on side 2? even though both sides need to remember what the parameters are during their charge?

Is there a work-around?

(PS Regarding getting a bargain, I got this one, NIB at a swap meet for $30 included with a LIPO balancers unit too).

An even better deal!!! Yes you can use the memory on both sides. Dont know why it would say that.

you can use each side with different batteries, etc...just select one side first...then press enter-charge and you will start to charge the side that you selected. Then you can press the output select button and you can change to the other side, then press enter to select the memory that you want. Its easy.

It is MUCH better than the Elite, has many more features, can charge a wider range of cells, etc. etc.

Pair it with the Equinox for a complete battery charge/maintenance package.

I use this charger with everything, including non-rc stuff.

May I suggest the Accucel 6 from hobbycity.com. It is half the price or more of other chargers linked to in this thread, and had just as much capabilities. I have had mine for about a year and nothing is bad about it at all, very satisfied. This charger also comes with a multitude of plugs to charge nearly anything (rx battery, glow plug ignitor, etc...) If you do go that route, spring for the EMS shipping, you will receive it in about 3-4 days, instead of the 2-4 weeks of the cheaper shipping option.

This charger is similar, but you can balance up to 8 cells and it outputs up to 150 watts. This is a high output charger and most people would be fine with the cheaper version above.

Strange....the instructions, in BOLD, explicitly state you can not do it...but that's what I get for reading the instructions.. Thx.

You can do it without any problem. I've also notice that in the manual and sent an email to Hobbico. It's just an error in their manual. I've been doing two charging at a time from the memory since the start with mine.
